when i was young an old timer taught me a trick for leather looking an interior. after painting the parts with flat paint, rub your finger on an oily part of your body like the nose or forehead and then rub the part, like in the seats. it'll ie it that little luster that leather has along with the texture.

That is a fantastic idea!!!! I am a bit too far into it right now for that, but the GTO will get that treatment for sure.

Looking forward to this one. My Grandmother had a metallic blue '69 or '70 when I was a little kid. She got a ticket once with me in the car for 98 in a 75, or so the family legend went.

Looks like a cool kit! The oil filter was molded to the pan on the 62 Bel Aire too, but there was no way to paint it. I cut it off, painted it and put it back on.

I had a few like that where I used a panel cutter to make the back of the oil filter. It worked OK.

Great start man! Love all the detail explanations of what you are planning to do and why you want to do it. Please allow yourself some room for changes that aren't perfectly up to the challenge. It is supposed to be fun and you show that in every video. Using the go to XF-60 is the right thing to do. LOL I can't wait to see how the underpainting shows up. I'm thinking th Brown Panel Liner would be enough to show the effect you want. Maybe? Looking so forward to the next video. Thanks Mark

Thanks. I'm always ready to change things up when they don't go right. I got almost everything in paint, and can't be any happier. I did a preshade on the seats, and it worked perfectly. I think the brown will add depth to the seats, and I may even do a Clear Orange over the top. Not sure about that yet. And I can't wait for everyone to see the Rockford Gold that I painted the body with.
@richiek6379

@@grandpamarkshobbies Glad it worked for you man. I would be worried that the clear orange may give it a "wood" look. Hey give it a shot, can always drop it in the stripper.
@grandpamarkshobbies
@grandpamarkshobbies 3 ай бұрын
I did a roadster that I used the Clear Orange on and it looked GREAT. Its all about the base color. As long as you use a lighter base coat and your pre shade isn't too heavy The orange will be OK.

I bought 2 of this kit. One will be blue, the other I'm not sure yet. The box art has my attention, as well as doing a red one. In my younger days, I almost bought a used blue '68 ..... so this is my substitution for not making that deal.
@grandpamarkshobbies
@grandpamarkshobbies 3 ай бұрын
Thank you. I was at a shop a week or so ago where they were getting a blue 68 ready for paint. It was all there and original. I can't wait to go back and see it. I totally understand getting one and building it like that, I do it all the time. I had a 74 and am always looking for that kit. But I love all the older styles. All the way up to when they went with the square headlights.

Nice! I like what you have planned for this one. Just put some thin cement on the rear seam and it will melt the gap closed. I've never tried the Tamiya glue. I always use the Testors thin Acetone and MEK cement. I think it works the same way.

If you haven't gotten too far with the kit rochester, and would still like to have better detail on it, even though the air cleaner is going to cover it up, you can get SUPER detailed carbs from Matt Inmann over at mcv products. He does amazing work with his printer, and the files he gets for printing are just top notch! And he ships very quickly, at least in my experience.

The paint color for Rockford's car was what Pontiac referred to as Denver Gold.. But the color was a bit different for each year the car was released over the 6 or so the show ran. So in order to keep the car's the same .. The guys in control of getting those cars and maintaining them , they came up with their own custom color , that they called ( Sierra Gold ) ... Just trying to help , I'll get back in my lane now. 👍 😂🤣
@grandpamarkshobbies
@grandpamarkshobbies 3 ай бұрын
Yes. Someone at the beginning of the show had a good idea there. It was a coppery light gold mix. I messed around with the mix for a while before I came up with what I liked. By the way, you can always come over to my lane. LOL

@@grandpamarkshobbies 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 I appreciate that.. I'm just glad that you have a great color that you're happy with.. Guys like us aren't building Show or Competition kits. I'm getting to old to spend that kind of time on one kit. So as long as I end up with something that I'm happy with , then it's going on the shelves.. 👍 OK , that's not really the truth : Good build or Crappy , it's going on the shelf.. These things aren't cheap , so somebody's going to look at them.😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Blessings to you my friend , I'm looking forward to watching this build as it moves forward.🦅🇺🇲🦅
