That build is turning out great. Thanks for sharing your weathering details, I'm always a bit overwhelmed by the infinite number of weathering techniques available and it's great to see someone select a few and complete a build. Your display idea is excellent. Thanks for sharing.

The rust job is turning out pretty good! 😎👍 I've long used the Tamiya Weathering powders for weathering military vehicles and aircraft. I need to try it on a car model. I have a pickup truck I'm going to make as a Gulf service truck that's seen better days. 😊

The rust is a bit orange by it self, but when used with other colors it looks great.

I thought of that after I already had it glued to the back of the car. I was afraid that I would mess something else up. Next time for sure I will sand a few off and drill a small hole where it was. You are right, it is almost boring doing the new one, but I'll add some things to it to make it fun.

Once again Mark you have done a awesome build. there are a ton of ways to weather anything and it is the builder that tries to reflect what they see in their mind's eye. Weathering for me is so relaxing while in the process that I get lost in it and I done went crazy with it... Lol The fence is a cool idea too... LLAP 🖖

That's coming along great ! The plastic water type bottles in the engine bay usually (sometimes) turn a nasty yellow after time. You could also add streaks from the caps from run-over. I have also used pastels and chalks for weathering for decades and I like that better than paint for the most part. 👍
@grandpamarkshobbies2 ай бұрын
I was afraid that it wouldn't look right with the car and the bottles yellow, so I went with gray. The camera didn't show the steeks that are coming down the bottles.

I like the way you explain the weathering and the plan to display the before and after. I have seen that used at a model show a long time ago and thought it was a cool idea. That fence makes a nice blank canvas for the backdrops of the two cars.

Thank you very much. Yeah, when I got the busted up kit I knew it was going to be best to just keep going with it. Then Lennis sent me a god one, so it was a no brainer to do them back to back. I just have to re do that ugly fence. I hate how that came out. LOL

Looks fantastic from top to bottom. Question about the pastels. I heard that 'chalk' pastels should be used for this but most pastels I see in stores are oil pastels which I don't think would work. Did you use chalk or oil pastels? I like the idea of a Before and After build. For that fence you should age/dirty up, the After side and keep it pristine for the Before side. If you see my hunchback build add-ons you'll see how India ink does a marvellous job at aging wood.
@grandpamarkshobbies2 ай бұрын
These are chalk pastels. I got them years ago from (I think) Hobby Lobby. Can't remember anymore. I am working on doing the fence just as you said. I also plan on adding some signs (old and new) to the fence.
