What sucks is that the Academy creams over movies like Spotlight. Not taking anything away from it but it had great performances and a good story, but nothing immersed me or captivated me like revenant or mad max, it's blatant Oscar bait. It's forgettable and really nothing revolutionary about spotlight. Movies that portray challenging issues and humanistic dramas take the Oscar glory. Whenever the fuck the academy feels like it it rewards blockbusters like Lord of the rings. More diversity in the academy = revenant could have won

The Revenant was nothing but cinematographic self-indulgence. Other than looking amazing on screen it was completely hollow. It is one of the best examples of how to be tricked by style over substance.

+Boba Babo . Damn, you just mic-dropped me so hard... I've seen it twice. Instead of simply calling me blind - despite my praise of the visuals - I'd rather have you explain to me where there is depth or substance in any of the characters (other than Hardy, who should win best supporting actor btw). Tell me how their cliched, unoriginal motivations drive the narrative in an insightful, thought-provoking way. Explain to me how this is anything more than a bland revenge story. Maybe detail all the examples of how Glass' actions inform us he has a reason to keep fighting and get revenge. While you were blinded with outstanding visuals did you fail to realize this movie isn't about Glass' revenge, but the Indians? Did you overlook that because Leo's bad camping trip of a performance enthralled you so emphatically? Maybe you missed all the lapses in character logic. Like how every single night Glass spends in the wilderness he sleeps, yet when he is finally discovered by his men he is wandering the woods at night? I know why, because it was an amazing looking shot. Rather, it's an exhibition of technically impressive cinematography at the expense of universe and character logic that's had been established throughout the film to that point. At almost every turn the filmmakers had to emphasize their hard work, and while it cannot be doubted, their story, continuity and logic suffer. Marketing team: they used natural light - market it. They shot hours of establishing shots and filmed actors on location - market it. The crew suffered - market it. Leo ate a real liver even though he didn't have to - market it. Leo's character is an outdoors-man, used to eating all manner of animal parts but vomits when eating the liver, don't market it. Movies are hard to make, but these filmmakers believe their strife entitles there story and movie be elevated beyond reasonable expectations. Just because work my hardest and I spend hours or weeks molding clay into a ball doesn't mean it's going to be perfectly circular. Does filming an exhaustive amount of film and scenery establish the world for the characters? Absolutely. Does cutting in Planet Earth-esque scenery during a fight scene for no reason make a good movie. Absolutely not. This is style over substance. You know what other movie utilize style over substance? Transformers. But I can't claim The Revenant is a turn-my-brain-off-and-inhale-popcorn movie, can I? Can you?

+Pengroves The Revenant is a Western, it’s a survival tale, it’s a drama, it’s a historical epic, it’s an existential portrait. And Inarritu did it on it's own beautiful way, and that's the opposite of unoriginal... I do agree with you that the lovely Tom Hardy should win that award. (And Leo offcourse) Both breathtaking performances.

Boba Babo Historically speaking, the only real aspect of The Revenant was that Hugh Glass existed and was attacked by a bear. Just because it's not some serious drama with a bunch of characters yelling at each other in an office for nearly an hour speaking faster than Usain Bolt can run, doesn't mean it hasn't earned the recognition that it has garnered over the past couple of months in these Award ceremonies. Don't be surprised if this film not only gets the most Oscars in the night, but also takes Best Picture as well.

Why Tom Cruise always say the name of the winners with a lower voice comparing to his own voice before in the presentation? Example: (I'll put it in caps lock just to illustrate from a normal level to a low level): "AND THE BAFTA GOES TO the revenant". - It's weird.
