The Revenant - Rescuing The Chief's daughter | Leonardo DiCaprio 0332am 8.5.22 not knowing the guy, DiCaprio, he who starred in the film i couldn't comment... but... i have just watched the revenant in it's entirety and found it to be most enjoyable. and the issue re: CGI taking precedence over actual actors engaging with film work needs to be answered and/or addressed... why so much reliance on CGI - for this movie in particular? it's nigh on avatar in it's love of computer generated graphics... it's not as though it was some sword and sorcery endeavour or another hobbit movie... it's a western when all is said and done... and there are a few references hidden therein: once upon a time in the west (dilapidated church where the hanging took place); the proposal (the overall aura of this film reeked of that australian presentation); empire strikes back (carcass scene); the pawnee allus sucking up to whites (little big man)... to name but a few. a decent film, though. and i would say you go see this: the revenant. o yeah; my comments are pretty obvious... but the overall feeling of this is i think native americans should have been asked to star in this movie as it wasn't the obligatory savages vs those who bring enlightenment to the darker regions of the earth routine... and what's the obsession with him, your Leo DiCaprio, sitting freezing in ice cold water - seems the film is littered with such acts of being frozen in arctic tundra like conditions for the sake it...? p.s i envisage a horror movie based on similar events - some unseen evil force chasing some unfortunate through the alaskan wastelands. all in all though a very fine film.... it also has, the film, an element of: my evil twin about it... refer to final death rattle wherein the bearded mountain men take down one another - with varying degrees of success.

From start to finish this movie is brilliantly filmed. I'm a western fan and have read countless books about mountain men, pioneers, Native Americans, Louis and Clark, Sacajawea, etc. Alejandro Inarruti did a fine job of presenting those extremely harsh times in this film. This will be the 2nd time I look forward to watching Oscar night. The first time was Dances With Wolves.

@luckylandono9168
@luckylandono9168 8 жыл бұрын
+Inge Fossen Have you watched the whole film? If you haven't, then I do highly recommend you to watch this film. From my perspective, the DoP wants us to get involved into the film. He wants us to feel the pressure, the excitement, etc. And most of shots taken in this film are first-person view type of shot, which make us feel like we're in the film along with the main character. I've only been 3 years in film industry. But in my humble opinion, to make such a hell of shots does need a lot of works and imaginations. For me watching this film is a whole new experience, though. I've never seen a DoP was so consistent and determine to make the audiences feel the whole environment in this film.
@luckylandono9168
@luckylandono9168 8 жыл бұрын
+Inge Fossen Actually, I'm a fan of The Bear. I tend to like those types of films, because it needs a lot of courage to make those types of shots, though. I applaud both Philippe Roussellot and Emmanuel Lubezki for their courage. These guys have given us a lot of amazing work and I hope they will continue to give us something to admire for the years to come.

1:28 pretty sure this is where the camera cuts (right at the water splashing the screen fully) to the stunt man. Been noticing quite a few of these moments. Very well disguised and impossibly to notice on the big screen when watching the first time.

@LulzRoyce
@LulzRoyce 8 жыл бұрын
ODDBALL SOK Stringing a few takes into one without the viewer noticing is magic all in it's own. And I'm not sure you understand why they cut it. At 1:26 it pans fast but you still see Leo's face (and that it's him) before he goes into the river. The cut shot was necessary AFTER seeing leo, so the stuntman could jump into the river instead of Leo because it's dangerous to do that believe it or not.

How it's possible that The Force Awakens got better reviews than this is either a complete mystery, or glaringly obvious in that our culture and sensation hungry society can't quite grasp this diamond of a film.. I think this film will later get the same type of respect that 2001: A Space Odyssey (which wasn't necessarily universally as well received by general audiences and critics that it deserved) many years after it's release. Although this movie got great ratings, it's shocking to me that this movie isn't a nearly perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Amazing movie and amazing cinematography but I'm pretty sure I see a mistake in this scene. At 2:58 if you scan the mountain tops behind the right side of Hugh Glass you will see what appears to be a clear-cut in the forest. These types of clear cuts were not very common in the 1820s and you would never see them at high elevations in remote locations. I live in BC and I see these types of clear-cuts very often.
@oddballsok
@oddballsok 8 жыл бұрын
+aVeryIntelligentDog Well, mistake. Minor detail. The seconds before you also see clear edges (landslides) where forest is gone. It would be a minor special effect correction if needed.But it is not needed. What I did notice was the final scene (shot in Argentina) when Glass walks up the ridge just before he stares in the lens that the two tree trunks in the center image are wholly sketched in (suspicion was: lower tree trunk = thick and suddenly diameter goes to 1/3 ..but no leaves,..looks dead, but the colour of bark is not dead.. What puzzles me is WHY the two truncks had to be there..

except 7 minutes in that river and your dead. and waterfalls that big create an undertow that is impossible to swim from. his clothes are thick enough to encumber his attempts to swim. this is very unrealistic and wouldnt be a problem if the film was depicted as a surreality. but it is shot and composed as a vivid multiple-well-defined character story. and that lucidity makes this "stunt" a type of appeal to its artistry and cinematic value. the story is compelling enough without the deliberate appeal to audience to ejoy it through unnessesary/forced inconsistent/unrealistic action and stunts.
