Cause at the end of the day from his professional perspective as PD and in korean general public's eyes it is the truth that Blackpink's visual is better than 2ne1's even with Dara being there. Back then and now catering to korean GP and knetz is kinda what they have to do as you can see from how YG has to apologize just for Jennie's nurse outfit in Lovesick Girls. I'm saying it as a former Blackjack/i left the fandom but never stopped supporting my girls/, you have no idea how many people i fought online who kept coming "yeah they sure are talented but they are not as pretty as XXX/any girl group/". You may not know it, when 2ne1 first debuted they sure were monster rookie but the backlash about their visual actually lasted from their debut until their disbandment especially from koreans. A long ago when 2ne1's picture with no make up was posted man, the comments were brutal. It almost made me cry i hopelessly wished 2ne1 to not read those bullshits. Having a visual that doesn't fit the korean beauty standart has no effect on the company, fans gather anyway because of the artists' talent but it sure has an effect on the artists. Being constantly called ugly by people on the internet. YG usually priorizes talent over looks. They are in fact known for it. But lately with Blackpink and Treasure they started going for both talent and visual. I thought maybe they don't want their artist to be ridiculed for their looks anymore. Besides Winner was called "the next BIGBANG" and Winner too are a visual group of YG while BIGBANG was bashed for being ugly upon debuting. Whether it be looks or skills Yang Hyunsuk was never known for any sugarcoating. He himself said how he has to be tough on them cause the industry and people are gonna be even harder on them. He was right. They were called even worse names by people.

When YG said he didnt try to make BLACKPINK any different from 2NE1 he meant it by like he didnt intentionally differentiate the two groups so he still use Teddy as the main producer. So he was actually sayin that he wouldnt make the girls any less "YG-ish"(because right after the revealing poster people were assuming this group will tone down the fierceness) just because they doesnt look like a typical YG group (cause they are too 예쁜 yeppeun. Like sometimes Knetizen can be the worst. If idol doesnt look pretty according to their "standard" they will be calling them ugly. But if you are too "pretty" they will assume you are some how less talented. ) And I hate even more that why nobody puts the most important words from this interview which is "It is very important how to constitute a team. BigBang meets their 10th anniversary and they were able to come this far because they unite well. I watched these four girls hang around together often and heard they get along well. So I decided to debut them in a group of four," (Im pretty sure the later documentary will prove that his words are honest. So there is just no proof that he pick these girls based on their market pleasing appearance. my personal guess based on no evidece is that ChaeSooLiJen slayed the monthly group evaluation couple of times (cause they said they instantly click with each other when they group together as four) which made YG consider to cut this project down to 4 (definitely not because he suddenly want to copy paste 2NE1 like he was always thinking of making a 9 people group. I still remember the 4th member(rosie) revealing day when YG said there's no more members we were all shocked like that's it where are the other famous trainees? )) because he sees that they are already a completed bounded group and he has also said that "But it has a different feeling when different persons wear the same clothes. Two teams (2NE1 BLACKPINK) have different voices and different faces." So YG never ever meant that BLACKPINK is the "prettier version of the 2NE1". He is pretty clear that these are two completely different teams and it's just that he wont be giving them different "clothes"(like producer and producing process) just because they are "prettier"(the true nuance of why he said "it's just that they are 'prettier' (and the unsaid sentence is actually 'pretty' means nothing. There's no point that just because they are "pretty" so they shouldnt act like badass)") and there is absolutely no evidence that he just selected "prettier copy pastes" of the 2NE1 members (though so many people interpret his words like this). He made it very clear that the reason why they debut as a group of four is because the four are very united and look like a whole since their trainee era and he wanted to make another group that can thrive for like 10 years like BIGBANG which needs members to be like a family. YG definitely is far from perfect and even pretty problematic sometimes and is inexcusable of many of his words but he is the one who is constantly fighting against the social norms in SK in my opinion.

Fun Fact: at first YG didn't mind the visual just talent but when haters judging the visual of YG artist and it make low interest of thier artist thats why YG make it new talent with visual. (even though their all beautiful before BP) back then the Haters of visual of 2ne1 and others make it to YG rent free to his mind then he became picky because of it🥺. Little did he know its hurting our beloved 2ne1 because he listened to haters and changed his perspective to what talent is but with visual. This is from my aunt who used to live at Korea back then before two of 2ne1 Got plastic surgery. 😔

I think YG dont mean it bad... I mean YG is the only company who never look in visual, they are really all about talent and music... if you all see all of YG artists from the old days, no one of them that is soooo pretty, or sooo handsome artist, they have okay look, but not like Korean people will call pretty/ beautiful or handsome... but YG still nailed it because of THEIR UNIQUE HIGH QUALITY MUSIC... but since Korean people care a lot about looks, lately he also including "Look/visual" as one of point in his audition... if someone has talent and look, and its their plus point... before YG is THE ONLY KOREAN MUSIC COMPANY WHO NEVER TRY TO SET POINT IN LOOKS/VISUAL... he 1000% judge you based on your talent, music ability... I dont think he means it bad... I heard him say about it many times, sometimes he likes awkward saying that while smiling, but I think he doesnt mean to insult or talk bad about his own artists... I mean he really loves all of his artists,, may be you ever heard about YG FAMILY, its a real family... and you can check if what I said is right, PSY, BIGBANG, 2NE1, AKMU, EPIK HIGH, JINUSEAN, they are all YG artists that debut way long before and if you see them, they are all about music, none of them that are so much pretty or handsome, but they are all have awesome talent, thats why I really respect them a lot... if you know most korean company even ask his/her artist to do plastic surgery before debuting them... YG never really force his artist to do so, they might ask the artist if they ever wanna think about plastic surgery, but if the artist say no, then thats it.. it wont take effect on their debut, music, the treatment for them are all the same... YG always about high quality music for all of his artist.. thats what I respect him the most... but many people just hating on YG, Thats what I said as BLACKPINK LYRIC (Coz, everybody sees what they wanna se, its easier to judge me than to believe) this really is true...
