Loose power was a core teaching back then. He demonstrates it in several one step sparring drills. My sensei Marty Cieplik was trained similarly.

What do you mean by 'loose power'? Are you saying relaxed & without stiffness?

@@BelloBudo007 Yes. We used to joke about the "sound of one hand clapping." Possible, if you struck someone with an open hand to the side of the head. The technique is simple but complex, only for advanced practitioners.

@@fantagor Thank you. So I am interpreting that you mean total relaxation to general whip power using something like taisho uchi? I've only trained with him occasionally, seen plenty of him on video and my teacher has spoken highly of him too. Stiffness is the enemy of many western karate-ka. Asai Sensei was from a special breed of Japanese karate Masters that seemed to come through the system at a similar time.
