Truth is they respected him. There was some curiosity about why he never showed up at the Hombu for six months or more to train. He would have been welcome. As for training to beat him, that's not true in any important sense. All the best guys back then were like 5-7 so they were always trying to improve their skills against bigger guys. Brennan was bigger, and he had lots of skill, and he wasn't intimidated.

Tough to say: Kokubon, Ogata, Sakata, Yamamoto, Yahara, Naka, Taniyama, maybe Brennan. Osaka could fight in the early days too.

great video, I enjoyed watching. It is good that you put in Nemoto and Kawawada and Yasunori because all we see in most of the videos are Tanaka, Yahara and Kagawa which are the most famous....this puts a new light on the others. Thanks and keep up the good work, oss! Serbia @nenadvucicevic

Eu só não entendo é o porque que nessas listas nunca colocam o sensei Juarez Alves que quebrou tantos japoneses. Acho que é porque os japoneses tem vergonha de admitirem que vários deles já apanharam de Alves.

lol im not even a shotokan jka guy but your list is missing Frank Brennan maybe the best there was, back to the drawing board or change the title to best japanese shotokan jka guys. the Japanese team coach, ex-world Champion Masahiko Tanaka said that the one man who the whole Japanese Team were specifically trained to beat was Frank Brennan. JKA World Championships (Shoto Cup) - Team kumite - 1st place (1990) JKA World Championships (Shoto Cup) - Individual kumite - 2nd place (1987, 1992) JKA World Championships (Shoto Cup) - Individual kata - 2nd place (1990) WSKA World Championships - Individual kata - 1st place (1991) WSKA World Championships - Team Kumite - 1st place (1991) WSKA World Championships - Individual kumite - 3rd place (1991) European Kata Champion - 3 times European Kumite Champion - 3 times KUGB National Kata Champion - 14 times KUGB National Kumite Champion - 10 times you should also look at christopher and hall.

This is the most biased and inaccurate list . There are many none Japanese fighters that had far better records and who these fighters really struggled to deal with . Brennan , Best , O’Neil , Hall , Trimble etc … Simply put British karate dominated karate competition for years and the entire Japanese team trained to beat Brennan prior to the 1990 world championships. He was that formidable. I think this reverence of Japanese fighters is misplaced and granted all great fighters . Watch Kagawa fight George Best for the world title . He lost !! He not only lost , he was ragged around and overwhelmed . Grow up and do a proper list !!!
@jasp1962 Жыл бұрын
Maybe You should grow up and show a little respect. It will always be a subjectiv list. Karate starts and ends with respect. And You sir are no karateka!
