Congrats! I hope you enjoy. For people unaware: make sure to access your games via the “RA” (RetroArch) menu . Just pretend like the “Game Room” option doesn’t exist. :)

The games in the Game Room section are poorly optimized. Anyone who picks one of these up will want to use the Retroarch section to get the best performance.

The Retro Arch tab has the better list of the emulators (the icon to the right when turning on). Dreamcast emulation lis laggy, but not as bad as Saturn. I've tried a few cfw on mine. Either I did something wrong or my video player support was disabled.

It's a very typical thing for these sort of devices. Anbernic probably started it and everyone else followed. It doesnt seem like a great design, but then the question is, does the SoC get hot enough with the level of emulation it can do? Nobody knows.

@@wryyyy Almost all of anbernic's handhelds use the battery as a heat sink. I have the rg35xx h (same hardware) and the back gets nice and toasty with ps1 or n64 emulation. Can't be good for the battery.

Use the RA games option, don’t use the game room option. RA games runs on retro arch and you will get way better performance than the Gameroom option that runs games in standalone emulators. That’s why your game boy advanced games were not running good.

I agree. I do play alot of PS1 and ps2 roms on my PC with a ps4 controller and that's real nice... but nothing has sucked me into playing games i missed or rare games i can't afford like the RG535v. I play so much ps1, GBC games on that thing. I LOVE these handhelds for that. Currently playing Survival Kids for GBC on my purple 535v and enjoying every second looking at the IPS screen. 10/10.

I was someone who for 15+ years said the SP was the superior design. Until I started actually retro GBA gaming on a daily basis. I own a fully modded ips SP and started retro gaming on it a few years back. A year ago i bought a fully modded ips original GBA and i haven't touched my SP since. I realized the SP is the most portable, but it is NOT the best design from an extended play session stand point. The shoulder buttons on the original GBA are undefeated and the form factor of the original is so much more comfortable for extended play sessions. You play any game that really uses the shoulder buttons often and youll see. Original GBA also has a normal headphone jack, so any 2024 wired headphones work with it. The SP requires specific proprietary headphones. I did have to buy a portable case to carry my GBA in as to not mess up the screen, but it's actually pretty charming I get compliments and questions all the time.❤

I just wish they had better screens because gba scaling on a 640 x 480 screen is terrible. Thye need at least 720 horizontal pixels to do 3x integer scaling and that allows them to turn one column off to simulate the pixel grid array.

you can just mod an original handheld system for that. there's premodded options if that's outside what you can do, plus analog pocket(with their adapters) and chromatic (though that's not supposed to be out until late this year) these retro systems are nice because i don't mind taking them out and letting other people play

I wouldn't recommend this...known issue with overheating where the CPU is right on top of the battery. Even if you bought a heat shield to put in between, I think it's still risky.

I always hated as a kid as well. Especially after playing on the comfortable GBA. I played the mess out of games on my atomic purple GBC and was head over heels when I got my clear blue GBA. I didn’t mind my GBC cartridges sticking out of the top of it. I loved it. Skipped the SP and got an OG DS. All these years later, I’m in love with my Retroid Pocket 2+ as it is a dream GBA & GBC experience. Having fast forward and save states are huge QOL additions when playing games (including my old Sega GG collection as well), but the screen colors and brightness and stereo speakers are great.

So personally, I think if you're going to be doing an unboxing, you should consider at least shouting out the custom firmware community. The stock firmware for these systems is getting better, but it just doesn't hold a candle to what the CFW community has made, performance wise. Edit: Video is good otherwise. Thank you for showcasing these devices that might otherwuse fly under the radar.
