Thanks Jaap. I love the sounds it makes. Good thing no exposed gears. Sounds powerful enough to take off a finger. What a wonder.

Great! A new video from Jaap! Sit back and enjoy!

This has to be the loudest calculator ever. I cant imagine a building full of them. haha
@jaapsch2Ай бұрын
It is pretty loud but I think the video makes it come across as louder than it is. I think that the shifting of the carriage might be worse because it probably shakes the whole desk it is on.

It is astonishing how we went from such machines to smartphones.

This machine is still on my wanted list! Fascinating machine!

Very cool machine, I always find it interesting how some companies simplified their controls going into the 1930s (like Marchant, MADAS, and Mercedes-Euklid) but others kept making machines with unlabeled levers protruding seemingly randomly from the machine
@jaapsch2Ай бұрын
Yes, this one has so many levers everywhere. I even forgot to explain one of them (the counter direction switch at the top right of the keyboard).

What an awesome machine Jaap, they've tried to cover every conceivable need with that machine. The diary that you showed at the end is a lovely thing to have too, I really like that.
@jaapsch2Ай бұрын
Yes, that diary is a fascinating historical cultural artefact.

Wow- very ambitious machine and video! The way the knob at lower left spins like crazy at 8:09 looks dangerous. Does it stop itself if your finger gets in the way?
@jaapsch2Ай бұрын
That is the axle of the electric motor. It was very handy to have that so accessible so that I could crank through a cycle while I was servicing it.

Those multiplications and divisions seem like a good way to break a finger that happened to be in the wrong place.

Wonderful piece of engineering - did it take much effort to get it working?
@jaapsch2Ай бұрын
Not really. All it needed was a little lube, and of course I had to replace the power cord. It was a bit tricky to get the covers off the carriage, but other than that it was no trouble.

Love it, what's the name of the plug standard?
@jaapsch2Ай бұрын
I mostly see these plugs called NZU-1, so I presume that is the name of the standard. They still make new replacements because these were so widely used.
