The government shouldn't just nationalize the production of ubiquitous, life-saving drugs like insulin and epinephrine either, it should nationalize the production of all the controlled substances and addictive pharmaceuticals as well. And not so those drugs can be a monetary boon for the government, simply shifting the profit motive behind the opiate epidemic from the private to the public sector, but to finance addiction research and treament with the *ENTIRETY* of the revenue. It's an incredibly simple and elegant way to address the opiate crisis and could even be a solution in its own right. Unfortunately, this country has no will to realize such a policy, because the monetization of human suffering is a quintessential American pastime.

This video sums up EXACTLY why I changed my major from Economics. Hasan's explanation is dead on. We talk about these issues in the more liberal econ classes, and the only real (not perfect, but real) solutions to systemic issues in our economic system always boil down to "gov needs to step in to socialize our system and our industries". Of course, that also requires politicians to even have a BASIC understanding of modern (not Keynesian) economics. Meanwhile, my more conservative econ and business profs in general have said straight to my face (yes, I literally confronted them about it in class, it was a time lol) that "price gouging isn't that big of a deal, if there are people who can/will buy at higher prices, so be it!" Modern economics (AKA not economic theories created in the 1920s BEFORE THE GREAT DEPRESSION) actually points to socialism as the only way to maximize Utility and Welfare for a group of citizens. I highly recommend you all look into it further as I am simplifying for the sake of this comment. Anyways, economics is also at best educated guesswork and is full of professionals/professors who act like it's still the 1920s. I changed my major bc I couldn't handle how depressing it all was, but good luck to everyone in this field who's actually trying to change the landscape of economics to focus on general Utility/Welfare (as they're supposed to) rather than lining the pockets of CEOs.

Hi, economics bachelor grad here. I feel like this is spot on to my experience. My more leftist professors teaching courses like cost-benefit analysis and development economics talked about how effective the government can be at increasing marginal social benefit as well as subverting "poverty traps" that keep poor people poor. But then I'll have a conservative professor in, say, labor economics, and seeing how minimum wage is discussed as though raising it would so badly hurt poor people makes me sick. American Economics is so unapologetically in favor of the supplier/ultra-wealthy class

I think that the depression will be gradual this time. The transition away from trading in dollars (largely because of sanctions over the ukraine conflict) will likely be what collapses the value of the dollar. If China, India, Russia, Arabia, start trading in basket currencies, yuan, or euros, the usd will suffer. Reserve currency status will be lost, and the stability concerns will bring about the very thing everyone was concerned about. Self fulfilling prophecy

Ended up having no other option and filed for unemployment which was a kick in my gut to have to do being willing and ready to work. When I was allowed to go back and put back on the schedule, a year later I got written up bc he passed away in my arms and I called off. And still with everything that happened, i would do it again. Work isn't my only priority, he was too. Pup was my child and my best friend. He passed peacefully and on his own terms. Good boy ❤️

Yeah like, when the economy was fine, almost every American I knew which is many was struggling, and not one I met was well off. The fact so many people struggle to buy fresh milk from a supermarket when I can go to a gas station and buy perfectly fresh drinkable milk is insane. Everything is a monopoly over there and everything is a ripoff, Americans can't get even reliable water. I knew one guy in Connecticut who had to boil his water for a full year because it was so contaminated. And I learned it's a common occurrence that you guys have to buy fresh water when I can simply drink from the damned tap. Can't get clean edible food, I can go, in my small town to most grocers and small-time places and reliably be able to eat any food I want but Americans have to be careful because it might poison them because it might be off. Every American I know barely scratches by where the smallest event could mean the end and then top everything off. Every day they go out they're likely to be shot and the Police won't protect them because the Supreme Court decided U.S Police have no duty to protect them. Oh let's not forget the Fascists threatening the existence of well over half of them and their simple right to fuckin' exist. Economic recession... Cyberpunk 2077? The good services cost money, so most us citizens will only get average care, for a high price. And most europeans will say that the pace of life is too fast in the us. You’re totally right in some places about this stuff. The clean drinking water mainly only affects certain areas. Most places still have access to reliable drinking water, but the rate of places that don’t is growing at an alarming rate, yes. The big thing that sends us over is medical care. You can either choose to die or pay thousands for treatment. People aren’t going to choose death, naturally humans choose to instinctively fight for survival. It’s so evil how they privatized our medical industry in order to make fat profits off of this. They know people will pay because they have no choice. It puts people in debt for YEARS sometimes. And then we have millions in poverty, but we also have a couple hundred guys who have more money than they could ever spend. Britain (specifically London) has a similar issue with some people having a far greater concentration of wealth, but they have the National Health Service and other social services that help the people and they are very popular programs. America gets none of that shit. We are left to starve and struggle and die just so the rich man can get richer. That’s the American dream. It isn’t OUR American dream. It’s theirs. And we are just meaningless dollar signs, meant to be exploited and reaped of value until there’s nothing left.

if you study political science, you learn about the concept of "flexibility" in the workforce. the capitalist classes keep people poor on purpose because they want a "flexible workforce" to exploit at any given time, and the poorer the working class is, the more flexible and exploitable they become. they want you available when they need you- and willing to work for a pittance- and will cut you and leave you out to dry the first chance they get. it is the nature of their game. this is at the heart of why wages at the bottom have not risen (when compared with inflation) since the 70's, while corporate profits and ceo salaries have gone through the roof. because the more focused wealth becomes at the top, the more they require a flexible workforce to enslave for their profit incentives and fiduciary responsibilities. read "the work of nations" by robert reich. class warfare is real.

Hey y’all, fun fact: animal agriculture gets subsidized tens of BILLIONS (40 billion in 2019, which has increased by a couple ten billion in the past few years due to Covid), whereas plant agriculture gets subsidized tens*** of MILLIONS of dollars every year. The food production for farmed animals count is subsidized as plant agriculture, which accounts for nearly 50% of plant food production in the u.s. Animal agriculture only accounts for roughly 20% of the caloric intake of the u.s population & roughly 35% of protein intake. Animal agriculture is a money pit. When Hasan talks about subsidies needing to be readjusted, & specifically mentioned food production, what he doesn’t point out is that animal agriculture is the overwhelming majority of where subsidies go. I’ve heard Hasan make fun of vegans and veganism constantly, but what is always left out of the conversation is that a large part of what veganism aims to achieve is a sustainable food supply with infrastructure that doesn’t require billions and billions of dollars being pumped into it every year just to keep it afloat, and with a very small fraction of that money actually getting to workers - which, animal agriculture is the #1 employer of undocumented workers in the u.s. (this is the stat I’ve seen, but construction is always very close).

Your landlord will increase the rent... Whats the point of living in rental units? We live in a system that favors competition, we are destroying each other while those who are at the top are living in their utopian bubble. Instead of competing against each other, we need to cooperate with each other against the rich/wealthy. Change the system.

Oh, speaking on landlords, the housing costs. Air bnbs are skyrocketing and people who can afford housings, THOSE PEOPLE WILL RENT THEM OUT. Businesses will own them. And those rents are getting expensive as well. And the only time they will sell is when the value is high and people who can afford it will buy it. WE ARE NOT WINNING. We need to limit the amount of housings a person/business can own. Or MAKE IT ILLEGAL to own more than 2 or more housing units. What’s the point of building more housings if these businesses are going to keep buying and renting them out?

That video and everything that you said really speaks to me, I didn't know your twitch channel before the pixelwar, it's one of the reasons thatI really liked this event (btw I'm French). It's true that the United-States is, with these unions within the low wage workers, at the beginning of a struggle that many European nations and country around the world have already accomplished, it's why we have social and health protection in France and others countries, not because the government care about people but more because the people at some point revolted and asked from the government that their most basic rights (health, a fixed minimum wage, scholarships for low-income families, etc.) be accessible to all. And the worst thing is that although we have acquired theses rights, they are not eternal, and those in power pressured and or corrupted by big corporations only seek to reduce these rights. So it's a fight of every single day and it's why in France we had the "Gilet Jaune" manifestation/movement, because the government was letting the most poor without enough help. Sorry if there's mistakes, my English ain't amazing.

I live in Australia and it’s so crazy to watch a twitch streamer ask for things that are the norm to us. The US government shouldn’t be making decisions depending on money/ how corporations would react. It’s actually quite pathetic knowing that the government is at the mercy of corporations.

Jack Ma is a good example of Chinese government stepping in. Jack wanted his version of Amazon to compete with local farmers and price them out. The government saw how much damage that can do and stopped it.

if you have the space buy some seeds and cheap plastic pots. fresh fruits, veggies or herbs will help supplement whatever food you can afford without having to spend extra at the store.

What fruits can be grown in a pot? Especially from seeds? Edit: thanks for all suggestions (and for fiercely defending the concept of indoor fruit farming! lol) but I was being facetious...and a bit annoyed at the flippant nature of the suggestion that indoor fruit gardening is some how a simple & legitimate way to feed oneself- especially starting from seeds & not seedlings/starter plants. Those of you who have tried know what I mean. But maybe this will prompt everyone who hasn't tried it to give it a go. Best of luck all! Show me those indoor container berries! 😉

@@tonyabrookes9931 Most of them. Startches like corn and potatos, veggies like tomatoes and peppers, herbs like rosmary and basil, save a ton of money on weed. You can grow tons of stuff with just a pot, soil, and seeds.

@@Tetragrammaton22 have you ever grown anything indoor in pots from seeds? Its a long process, takes up a lot of space and requires constant care & resources and doesn't yield enough of anything to supplement needing to purchase food. And if one is struggling financially so much that they have trouble buying food, I dont see how they can invest in indoor growing supplies and climate control features for growing. While the first commenter likely had good intentions, what they're suggesting is not feasible for the average person. And you didnt answer my question either. Which fruits can a person grow in a pot, in their home, from seed? And by "home", I'm guessing we all mean apartment because if someone has an actual house, they can just plant an outdoor garden so growing indoors in pots would not be necessary. Apples & citrus grow on trees, berries grow on bushes, grapes grow on vines and almost all fruit requires pollination ...so what are we growing in pots, indoors? I'm asking genuinely. I've had gardens, I grow herbs and propagate house plants and I can't think of anything that would thrive in a pot indoors and produce edible fruit

I don’t even have faith in unions anymore. My boyfriend was fired during the height of COVID in summer 2020 because he rejected overtime (already 12 hr night shift). Waited months for a hearing, sort of got one last fall and hasn’t heard from them at all after that. His past employers - a residential building literally on billionaire row in Manhattan - basically got away with that because of poor response from the union
