Rick Derringer is one of the coolest people you could ever meet. Back in the early 90's I worked for a sound and lighting company and my old boss and I did monitors for Rick at a club he played at here in Maryland, but he didn't have a lighting tech, so he asked me if I could run lights. It was Rick Derringer! I was not going to say no! It was the neatest thing ever to be able to run light for him and to top the icing on the cake, he paid me and bought me a beer afterwards.

In 1992 I spent an entire afternoon and evening both onstage and in my flat above the venue with Rick Derringer & band. I would like to say that not only is Rick one of the most talented and proficient musicians ever, but a truly humble, kind and generous person one will ever know in the business of rock'n'roll. A true all American. Thank you for one of the most memorable times of my life and a lifetime of great music and inspiration. Cheers!

It was a small venue in 1995, I was in heaven, at the end of the show Rick was kind enough to do some autographs. He signed the inside of my new leather jacket. You know what's interesting. He mentioned Fagan would catch mistakes and mistakes can be better than the right note. There's a Ritchie Blackmore interview where he talks about Joe Satriani being too correct. He says Hendrix hit lots of wrong notes because he was always searching for the right note. Interesting that 2 legends would throw that thought out there. BTW - I think Rick would've been a great replacement for Blackmore in Purple.
@sixslinger99513 жыл бұрын
there is nothing wrong with being accurate and well versed with the guitar fingerboard. someone that bashes players like Satriani and others are just jealous and making excuses for their own sloppiness.

Got to meet him once at Terra Blues in NYC in the early 1990s. He played a show there and it was quite a racket indeed. I worked there and I was always interested in the gear that folks came in with because it was not a huge room. R.D. was set up with a black faced Fender Super Reverb. His tone was spot on. I've wondered ever since what tubes he had driving that amp. I spoke briefly with him and he was a true gentleman.

And the opening act was not very well appreciated, some booed and yelled “DERRINGER”! The band said ‘ YA-YA i know…… This was the first time to see this band . THE RAMONES…! True story, R.D. Could validate it ! We would Cruz ALL the Bay Area strips with “Derringer LIVE “on at least half the time. Good times! No fights [RARELY}. Cruzing and boozing and laugh more than beef. Than my buddy worked for BGP. So we would get backstage passes ,hang with the bands , became Friends with bands, Local and touring groups . Bay Area Music scene was cool, Heavy weights would BS with us . No phones, Party and Fun! The movie DAZED AND CONFUSED had nothing on NORCAL .We really lived it here ! Tons of TALENT lived Here OR recorded here . Day on the greens,{Oakland coliseum} where the As played would ROCK! Great time to grow up. ‘’Only Got time for one more song!!!!! Thanks Rick! RICK!!! Hey man, I have a serious question for you regarding your HIT SONG and VIDEO, "HANG ON SLOOPY" which I used to ROCK OUT, DANCE and SING to/with when I was growing up. But here's the rubb: I asked the question, "WHO'S THE GIRL DANCING IN THE VIDEO of HANG ON SLOOPY?" And in response it created a MASSIVE AUDIENCE to find out WHO the DANCER actually is/was! I spoke with Liz Brewer who stated without question SHE is the girl dancing in that video. I posted for everyone to see, But then, this other girl popped up suddenly "Lisa Dalton" claiming to be THE DANCER in your Hang On Sloopy video. I can see why a girl would want to claim she was the one... thee ACTUAL DANCER HAD THE MOVES!! Damn... THAT IS FOR CURE man. :--)) But the DILEMMA REMAINS and I have reached out my LONG ARMS in every direction to find the TRUTH. Finally I have decided.... to go to THE SOURCE... the one person who can CLEAR THIS DILEMMA UP once and for all.... YOU my friend! And so--- without further adieu, "I POSE TO YOU RICK". . . WHO WAS/IS THE DANCER in your Hang On Sloopy Video ??? I'm posting the video link below: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ip23fJuGoL-GgNE Look forward to YOU putting an END to this Rick!
