12:03 This is basically Karl in a nutshell. He is misunderstood quite a lot because he is unable to articulate his thoughts as well as Ricky or Steve. He simply meant, because he recorded whatever event/fact he learnt in his diary, it jogged his memory enough that he did not have to finish reading the entire entry.

@sfairraid 13 Agreed. I know it's an unpoular opinion, but the way karl delivers funny statements shows a lot of self awareness. He builds up to a punch line and then drops the nugget. Actual idiots don't do that, because they don't know which bit of what they're saying is silly.

@@KeanKennedy I don’t think he’s trying. I think he gets flustered and just can’t express it enough to keep up with his mind. But he’s absolutely NOT an idiot. He’s bright and was poorly educated and SO under exposed to things. I also suspect he’s somewhere on the spectrum. So you mix that altogether and you get a very unique view of the world. I DO think Ricky and Steve often know EXACTLY what he’s trying to say, but THEY feign confusion and wind him up to make him babble worse the more frustrated he gets.

This whole show is predicated on Steve and Ricky willingly/unwillingly misunderstanding Karl's musings. I couldn't agree more that Karl is genuinely NOT an idiot, and that he knows exactly what he's saying/ how he's saying it. And I'm very pleased to find this short comment thread in agreement.

There is a woman who actually suggests you write the way he does in his diary every morning. She has named it The Morning Pages. It is a good way to get things out of your head and onto paper to free your mind for creative pursuits. When I do it every day, I have noticed I pose questions about things that are bothering me and by the time I am finished the answer to my problem has been solved. Also, writing like that can be a good meditation.

If you love these clips you should really listen to all of the XFM Ricky Gervais shows and podcasts. That's where all of these clips come from, they just added fun animations later. But the original radio shows have SO MANY hilarious parts! Some that are too vulgar or too random to include in the animated show.

I think a lot of Karl's perspectives come from not perceiving the difference between a newspaper and a tabloid. I'm not having a go at him. He's obviously very intelligent and deep-thinking, he just seems to have a lot of wrong facts in the mix of information.
