Hey, BMW CCA Track Instructor here. I watched the video several times over and it looks like what happened was; as you crested the small hill while turning slightly left with throttle input, this unloaded the rear enough to cause it to slightly step out. You would have needed to be an expert driver with like 100 hours at the skidpad to notice it soon enough to save it. Glad you and your passenger are OK! This sucks and I hope it doesn't turn you off from track driving. Since you're in VA, you might still be able to claim insurance and get some money back. You can message me, happy to help if I can.

I would not try to rebuild that. pull anything of value to try and sell and cut your losses.

I just binged all your M4 videos a few days ago, and seeing this is truly heartbreaking man! My M4 was totaled a few months ago as well so I know the pain to some degree, but most important thing is that you and your passenger are okay. Looking forward to witnessing the rebuild and turning this thing into a straight up racecar.

You are probably better off trying to find a Flood Damaged M4, Gutting it and then replacing it with the parts you have. Providing the Engine, trans and diff are still good as well as the rest of the electronics. These are just my opinions.

Full lift right at the crest is what upset the car. Just gotta carry the maintenance throttle or be ready to catch it when it snaps. Glad you're alright nasty incident.
@TWRX_Chuck4 жыл бұрын
This was my thought too. Rwd lift off oversteer. Glad you are ok dude, let me know if you need any help with anything!
@bboygreddy4 жыл бұрын
Agreed, that lift is critical and timing is important, too much/too little and if it's not properly managed it'll definitely upset the car. If you watch his other videos you can see in this sector there's a lot steering wheel sawing to manage it. I'm in an aero'd out e92 m3 on slicks and I still have to lift a bit there, obviously entering a bit slower than an m4
@SpacePrez4 жыл бұрын
IDK man he was going 100, still accelerating up to 110 into that corner? I don't think anything short of an F1 car is gonna be able to handle that S curve without slowing down a bit first. Turning the car left and right at that speed is as likely to upset it as lifting on the crest.
@nathansaxonracing4 жыл бұрын
@@SpacePrez just got off coaching at that track yesterday. What I was saying is he either needs to ease off the gas smooth and earlier before the crest or lift partial throttle earlier and hold even 20% steady through there. Keeps the weight off the front and that massive "snap" at the crest. The section can handle good speed if the line is correct and everything is smooth
@jasonkreth35044 жыл бұрын
Nathan Saxon key words here are “if the line is correct and everything is smooth”. Sawing on the wheel earlier in this section means- 1. he is usually no where near the limit of the car or tires. If he was the drastic steering inputs wouldn’t do anything the car would just understeer or spin. 2. If he needs to use those large steering inputs, the car is incorrectly located on the track (off line) and requires a large correction. He is never at the limit of the car, which is why he is constantly sawing in the wheel with steering inputs that are not smooth and it doesn’t matter. This lap however, he is showing off for a passenger and enters the corner (for the first time ever) at the limit of the tires and car. His usual terrible control inputs, (abrupt steering, corrections after entry either too late, too fast or not enough steering angle, poor throttle control etc) that are ok when you’re not near the limit are deadly when you are. We can discuss all day his line, timing, steering etc. The fact remains there was only one cause of this crash. Novice driver showing off driving beyond his ability to think ahead of the car. Period. If he slowed down, the car would have stayed on track. Risk vs reward. No race, no trophy, no money, no spectators, no points, no championship on the line... nothing. Advanced group has nothing to do with the ability to go fast. Being good is what matters. Fast comes later, and it’s effortless if you’re actually good.

Thank you for the video and advice. It very educational. Many young drivers need to understand it is more safer to race in a track than street racing. I am very glad that you and passenger survived. Being alive is a new hope. Just have patience in rebuilding the car and bring another scrap car of the same model.(maybe the scrap car engine or gearbox problem). But, car body condition is good. However this will be a long process. But, don't worry able to survive and live in one piece is already a blessing.

Do not rebuild. You will dump a lot of money into a car and still not have a complete straight chassis. Part out and get the most money you can, buy a cheap track banger car (eg. Civic, miata, golf, e30, e36), cage it and drive your heart out in it. Safety first though

My only ever full blown open track day was actually at Dominion, in my 2015 Mustang, my only car. That's a tight place, no room for mistakes. It was after that day that I decided that I have no business taking it on the track. I'm investing fully in my seat time through SCCA autocross and Motorsport 4the Masses. Much less risk running in parking lots and plenty of opportunity to get sharper. I look forward to doing more track events once I have a dedicated beater track car that I wouldn't be so upset to leave out there and still be able get to work on Monday in the daily. Sorry to see this happen, hopefully others will learn from your mistake. Best of luck to you, my man 🍻

Don't let the haters get to you. Everybody has to learn, and the only way to become a better driver is through practice. Sometimes we make mistakes that to self-proclaimed pros (or real pros) look stupid. Learn from it and don't make the same mistakes again.
