If anyone has an ISSUE with STICKY OLD or NEW CARDS, use fanning powder. It's a powder that cardist use on old playing cards to help them spread nicely again. I tried it on my old unused radiant RWS deck and it shuffles and fans effortlessly now. I just dab very little on my finger and spread it on the surface of the cards (you only need a little, it'll look like you're barely putting anything but trust me smear what's on your finger to both sides and use a tissue or soft cloth to spread and wipe any little excess and smudges) Hope that helps anyone with sticky decks ;D

I am so pleased you have done our tag Katey, I really hoped you would as I have followed your channel for months. Totally agree on your views as to what constitutes a clone and was what I was thinking when posed the question. There are originals, clones and then those that follow the RWS system. Thanks again! x

Love this video, especially the inclusion of the Lo Scarabeo deck. It's been so hard to find reviews of that deck, and it's nice to see it in context with the other clones.

Interesting. Would have really loved to see the backs of all the cards, though. That’s how I have an idea of when they were published. Also, personally, I wouldn't call those others clones, I would call them Rider-inspiried. I only call decks that use Pixie's exact artwork clones. Semantics, I guess. :)

Great video Katey! I totally agree with you about the Radiant Rider-Waite regarding the coloring. I have both it and the Universal Waite and I've never been able to connect to either of them but the PCS Commemorative however is my absolute go to RWS deck. The Golden Rider is so fabulous and I must attain a copy one day!!

I like the 70s one (Hoy Paloy ?) :p jeez I like them all! It’s the little things really :) pretty nail colour also 💅🏽 thank you for the video. All beautiful decks, agree I like the golden tarot also. Out of print 😖☹️ also like the Royal affairs (I think that’s what called?) nice collection 🙂

Great video, Katey! I wouldn't call the Universal (Lo Scarabeo) a clone though; if you look for instance at the 4 of Swords that one is very different than the actual RWS image.

Very nice RWS collection. If you had the opportunity/means, would you ever want the historic originals (Pam A or C or whatever they're called; I'm not an expert, lol)? Me, I can never quite decide if I'd want the responsibility of caring for one, even if I could afford it! What if I somehow lost/damaged that precious piece of history? 😱 …Pretty abstruse question, I know. Oh, btw, my definitions of clones etc. are the same as yours, though I'm not quite sure where I picked them up. Maybe on Aeclectic Tarot or something. Anyway, great video as always! 💜
@KateyFlowers7 жыл бұрын
Bookwight oh yes, I would totally love to own one of those original decks, although I don't expect to given the fact I don't like to spend too much, even on the more valuable decks! I know what you mean though, it'd be pretty devastating if anything were to happen to it!

The Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot was first printed in 1910 by German printer A.G. Muller and published under the label of English publisher Rider & Sons. These decks are exceedingly rare. Between the years 1935-69, finding a store that regularly stocked Tarot decks was quite uncommon, even in cosmopolitan areas. U.S. Games only got the patent in 1970 once interest in the Tarot resumed. The assertion that Pamela Coleman-Smith's art is "from the 60's" is, quite simply, untrue. In fact, Coleman-Smith's self-stated inspiration for the artwork for the pips on the RWS deck is the Sola Busca Tarot, first published in 1489 in Italy. Indeed, the RWS deck is a "CLONE" of (or, rather, an homage to) the Sola Busca Tarot (and the surviving Visconti Tarots) in many respects.

Tamlyn Murray Hi Tamlyn, yes I'm aware of most of the basic history of the deck and don't believe I assert anywhere that PCS's art is from the '60s.

Great video! Could you maybe tell me what is the year of release the pre-copyright RWS deck, the first one that you show? It is the one I like the most and I have a problem of finding no copyright version, as 1971 ones that I have found still have this copyright.
@jaywheeler760 Жыл бұрын
But the decks from 1970 and the 90s both have Pamela Colman Smith's name prominently on them and everyone knows PCS was never given recognition until TikTok was invented. 😉

The pre copywrite RWS is my favorite, love the font, the thick, matte finish card stock. I don't care for any of the USGames decks that are printed in Italy. They are too shiny, and the card stock is too thin. I prefer their decks that are printed in China, which are more similar to the older RW decks. The Centennial version is an example of the USG decks printed in China.

Sorry, which one was it? Circo or Royal Fez? The Circo I got in a Kickstarter campaign, I'm not sure if it's still available. And the Royal Fez has been out of print for many years, so it's not the easiest to find at an affordable price. Mine was a bit used and came with no box or anything, so I didn't have to pay too much for it in the end. :)
