Mount up boys. We take one last look our horses, and do our checks before we mount up reach down and make sure the hobbles on its front feet are tight and the trip wire is tied off snuggly. Then we pull the cinches to make sure they are tight. We've done a couple of practice rides with the horses to make sure they work together. As we mount up, mine gets a pat on the neck. My bay is a little bit slower, so Bob calls over me, "Spur that lazy bay, and keep up!" We need the horses to be side by side when the trip wires go tight. The signal is given and we ease up on the reins and kick our horse's sides. This is a short ride and the horse gets a reward when the wire goes tight. A day off, na. A head first fall, and a day off or maybe a broken neck, back, or leg.
