@@mcdelive Kumar Dharmasena awarding 6 runs instead of 5 was one of the biggest umpiring blunders in cricket history if not the biggest. The laws are flawed, yes. But, he cannot use that as an excuse for his mistake. It is an umpire’s job to figure out if batsmen had crossed. Umpires can make mistakes, I understand but not accepting and owning up to the blunder reflects poorly.
@mcdelive
@mcdelive 2 жыл бұрын
@@sidthakkar09 You are only stating the obvious, but clearly missing the point... Lets say for example if it was a LBW decision, umpire has to decide if its Out or Not Out and if umpire to make the wrong decision by mistake, there are ways to get it reviewed, verified and rectified (eg: use DRS), but here we know Dharmasena made a mistake, but he wasnt given the opportunity to verify and rectify his decision. So he was left with 2 options of whether batsmen didnt cross (award 5) or batsmen crossed (award 6) and he thought its the latter.... Its easy to judge people on hindsight and be a hypocrite, but if Dharmasena was given the option to watch replays it wouldnt have ended this way.... Mind you, he also consulted the Leg-umpire and 3rd umpire was just sitting their watching the replay himself and let the wrong decision happened.... And has anyone questioned him part on this? - No.... So dont be small minded, see the bigger picture...!

@@mcdelive brother - no offence but I ain’t reading that long a comment because by the looks of it, I figure you’re trying to tell me what the rule is. Let me make it clear - I know what the rule is and you’re basically stating what the channel stated in the video already. There is no rule for the umpire to go to the 3rd umpire if there is no wicket, I GET IT. You’re missing the point of my comment - He made an error of judgement and awarded 6 runs as benefit of doubt, OK - human error but simply not acknowledging that it was his and leg umpire’s error in judgement does not reflect well.

The beauty of this game was, that the country which was beaten by NZ just a few days ago in the semifinals was cheering for NZ. I was heartbroken. Rules are meant to facilitate the game not throw the game into controversy. Best result would have been sharing the trophy by Eng and NZ. Eng played good cricket throughout the tournament as well. There could have been one more super over. Another 20 odd minutes to decide the winner rather than depending on an another outrageous rule - the boundary law. NZ rotated the strike better hence they had lesser boundaries than Eng who had more power hitters who used their brute force to hit more boundaries. How can one be considered better than the other. Infact farming the strike and rotating is a much more difficult task many times. This brought back memories of 1992 semifinals as well where cricket has died yet again because of atrocious rain rules. Your way of explanation brought back the vivid memories of sadness.

As a New Zealander obviously it was very painful to lose the game, and even more so to find out later that the decision had been technically incorrect. It was an odd situation, to be sure, and I don't think I have it in me to blame the umpires or anyone involved really, things just didn't go our way. Still, despite that underlying disappointment, I have to say that it was probably the greatest game of cricket I've ever witnessed, in terms of quality of play from both teams! Sometimes it is unfair for the fielding side to be penalised for accuracy. There were so many instances where the the ball went to the boundary after hitting stump. I think, we should allow the ball to be called dead ball, if it hit the stumps directly. This is already a batsman's game most of the time.

Even though NZ played there heart out to tame that ferocious England side on that day on final but we see the broad picture It all started for England with same opponent in 2015. They didn't have margin to show how they win it but they thoroughly deserve that world Cup. After changing ODI cricket style for good they earned the rightful tag of world champions. Yes Sharing the WC could have been more memorable but saying England doesn't deserve is too harsh. And for Kumar Dharmsena he'll be more happy like Steve Buckner after doing all the wrong.

I agree. But even if only 5 runs were given, still the match could have gone either way. Then for last ball 3 runs required. Boult bowls a full toss. Ben stokes tried to run 2 because only 2 runs required. But if 3 runs were required, Ben will go for a big shot. Imagine 4,6 or catch? Anything could have happed

Tried to get only 2 runs? I don't think so. Neither is he technicaly that sound to place a shot of the last ball of the world cup, it is by common sense the most idiotic approach. Every player plays according to the merit of the ball and the situation. Since situation trumps the merit of the ball at that stage, only thought in Stokes' mind was to get run. You also reason that Boult bowled a full toss. Applying your same "logic", Boult would have bowled differently to a different striker or when the required runs are different. Rules are there to apply them correctly. That day England won, the sport lost.

There was a short over called in Ind vs SL game in CB series 2012 while india were chasing and the game tied in the end. Imagine it being a final of any sort of tournament! The voluntary involvement of third umpire in no ball calls should be the stepping stone of eradicating more man made mistakes in this game especially in the historic moments like these!

Great video.... as a kiwi and dedicated cricket follower since about 1980, this incident makes me sad and very angry. much worse than even the underarm incident. Does it matter, how the runs are scored?
