Then we have to change the 1.7 limit also. When looking at earlier crashes, there also we have to take "reasonable" range to freshly calculate PCR...

Yes, I Slightly disagree with PRS here, reason being if a put deep ITM is still open, that means the put writer is optimistic about market that he has dployed lacs of margin to just get that 5-10pesa, which shows his margin/reward ratio is very bad, so it's an unusual optimism indication, thus every option matters in PCR. That is why in every crash or surge, we should not manipulate indicators as per our convinience.

@@gauravaggarwal Bhai deep ITM put for a writer means he is bullish on a stock/index. Suppose for example in the option chain, 15000 put option 31 dec expiry has 3000 of OI. DO u think market could move 1500 points in just 13 days despite already being a bullish market????? No sense whatsoever here. I agree with sundar here for a range of 1000 pts, but what he said about PCR of 1.7 should also be readjusted.

It would be really interesting to know this " new improved PCR " at the time of earlier crashes ( as calculated using the new method recommended by PRS) because only then the comparisons (at the " level playing field ") would be relevant . Who knows the PCR at earlier crashes as calculated using the new method might turn out to be say 1.2 instead of 1.7 as calculated earlier !

talking about intraday, what's your say what should be the ideal range of the strike prices? like seeing how nifty is moving only 4 strike price above and below should be sufficient right?

sir I found this article in Economic Times page, A PCR ratio below 1 suggests that traders are buying more Call options than Put options. It signals that most market participants are betting on a likely bullish trend going forward. For contrarians, it is a signal to go against the wind. On the flip side, if the ratio is higher than 1, it suggests traders are buying more Puts than Calls. Unlike Call options, Put options are not initiated just for directional call. They are bought also to hedge against any decline in the market. The market sentiment is deemed excessively bearish when the PCR is at a relatively high level. But for contrarian investors, it suggests that the market may soon bottom out. On the other hand, when the ratio falls to a relatively low level, it is deemed excessively bullish. For contrarians, it would suggest a market top is in the making.
