I cut all canes of my everbearing raspberries to within an inch of the ground in late February when the canes are completely dormant. That eliminates the July crop, but then the late-summer crop is very heavy. My favorite everbearing raspberry is Joan J. I'm in the Seattle area.

I planted 3 cuttings from you and had 13 new shoots come up from the ground in the first year 😁 I have terrible clay soil but the raspberries don't seem to mind at all.

Why not compost? I've heard that other places, but with no explanation.

Great information as always Laura! Thank you. However, your editor needs to have the Raintree logo in a better location, not covering your face.

Hi Laura its been 5 months since we spoke on the Phone. I am stalling on a third order for late April. I moved on my back Yard Type two pruning and my landscaper clearing out my Ivy and Pachysandra . Turned out to be 6 yards of debris. So I went for 3,600 Sq.Yds. to 9,000 Sq. Yards. with 65 yards of wood Chips down. I burned out my 36 year old riding Lawn mower. hauling wood chips. I am ready for planting Except, I have to plan out my Forest!!!! YIKS , that's a big job. so Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. If you vacation in New York City, give me a Shout out.......

Hi! I’m late to the game here but really liked your video. 😊 May I ask why you don’t put the cuttings on your compost pile?

My guess is because raspberries grow so easily, you could end up having them shoot up in your harden from it? But I could be wrong

Where and how can I plant red raspberries so they wont spread like a weed throughout my actual lawn? I planted them 2 years ago and didnt realize how intense of runners they produce. I've come to like black raspberries and blackberries more in part because they stay put and dont spread like a weed like red raspberries do. Like how does anyone grow red raspberries without having them spread everywhere on their property? It's a shame because I love red raspberries and I also like the way the plant itself looks throughout the year...I'm just tempted to get rid of the plant itself because I dont want my lawn/property/other areas of my garden being invaded by this plant. What are your recommendations?

You can install a grass barrier if you are really concerned about it, that usually works fine. The other option is to sharpen a shovel with a metal file and cut the edge of your bed at least once a year, if not more, to sever those runners and prevent them from establishing.

@@RaintreeNursery what do you mean grass barrier? Because my red raspberry plant when it spreads grows into my actual grass also.

How is pruning blackcap raspberries different? all the growth that happened this year seems alive in my patch.
@RaintreeNursery
@RaintreeNursery 2 жыл бұрын
Blackcap raspberries only fruit on last summer's canes (the floricanes). If you want to control the height of the new canes you can remove the tips in early summer. You should also completely remove canes after they are finished fruiting. Look at the bark texture of the canes and it's easy to tell which ones are still alive and which ones are spent.

Are the pruning rules the same for ever bearing varieties of raspberries?

Yes! There are differences within each variety, but these techniques are universal.

Really incomplete info!!! There are two different groups of raspberries, 1 year and 2 year fruit bearers (primocane and florocane), just like blackberries,, and you trim them differently.. You guys are supposed to be pros and teaching others. Sad.

We crafted this video specifically to provide simple instructions that will apply to all varieties and types of raspberries - summer bearing, fall bearing, AND everbearing. The subtleties of working with each type of raspberry is not what this video is about. Please watch the video again. Thanks!
