The writers and Jennifer Nettles did an amazing job with the character of Aimee-Leigh. Even after death she had a presence and was always talked about in the previous four episodes, and in this episode we see why. She was such an integral part of the Gemstone & Freeman families; the strong glue that was able to prop both families up. With a single episode we see just how big of a loss Aimee-Leigh's death really was.

Those who turned faith into a highly lucrative entertainment product, completely bastardizing the actual Word of the Lord at the same time. Goggins' character I think truly believed in the message, and the good will to men thing that religion tries to be about, but he had never really been as astute at business as Gemstone was so he just fell further and further behind, and then when his sister (who was married to Elijah Gemstone) ends up dying before they can take this song on a tour (which would've put some money in his pocket finally) he just finally accepts he'll be broke forever while instead he gets to watch Gemstone get richer and richer and richer.

"daddy won't you listen don't go missin im behavin" the implied dark nature of dad leaving the family bc a kid is misbehaving is hilarious.
@phineusmcclintock15 жыл бұрын
I think it it's a little more playful than that... like... don't go missin around the corner or something like how kids always want their parents to watch them do stuff. but surely it could be more dark as you say hahaha.

@@phineusmcclintock1 i see what you mean. Both funny, but how rude these characters are what theyll do to make you believe them I felt like they were implying if you dont behave like a good Christian you will lose your dad. Both funny though.

Goggins won an Oscar a few years back for best short film; he produced and starred in it, I believe. Walton steals the show during every scene in which he acts. And kudos to McBride for stellar writing and for surrounding himself with so many talented actors. It shows that he only wants the series to succeed and to be a high-quality product. I was thrilled to learn that Goggins would be joining the show by the third Gemstones episode. Love the show!

This clip is absolute genius. Is it satire? Is it sociology? Would it be considered by some as authentic to the genre of 80's preacher TV shows? Whatever the case, Walton Goggins and Jennifer Nettles' performance is probably the best song/dance number in a TV show I've seen this year.
