My Nostalgiaween 2022 Wish List: Animated Movie Category: Monster House (2006) Diamond in the Rough Category: Silent Hill (2006) Obscure Movie: Stay Alive (2006) Remake Movie Category: The Hills Have Eyes (2006) Stephen King Movie: Creepshow 3 (2006) Weird Movie: Evil Bong (2006) Yes, you noticed a pattern too...All of them are from 2006...Mainly because it was KIND of my year of horror...I saw a cool animated movie, the best Saw movie (part 3), had an awesome video game movie, but it also had some major stinkers, including a boring Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel, what some consider the worst out of the Creepshow trilogy, and a craptastic remake If I was gonna pick which FOUR....Well...Wouldn't be Nostalgiaween without a Stephen King Movie, so Creepshow 3 is in, I so badly want Silent Hill to be reviewed because it's a little like The Ring, not that great, but has great stuff in it(one of the goriest films ever, and makes you smile like a psychopath just watching it), Always need an animated movie so Monster House is in, and I would Choose Stay Alive over Evil Bong...Because it's an obscure movie that needs more eyes on it be it bad or good
@sebastianemond53132 жыл бұрын
I've been making a wish list myself of potential Nostalgia-ween reviews I'd like to see. I even compiled a list of my new Halloween Classics & Guilty Pleasures once. Last year, I asked if sometime Doug can review Deep Rising (1998) by Stephen Sommers, given he has reviewed both his Mummy movies, and Van Helsing. I wonder how Doug will handle Stephen Sommers combo of Waterworld and tentacle hentai monsters. I think for my wishlist, I'll add- Hollowman (2000) - 20 years before Elizabeth Moss and Leigh Whannel gave us The Invisible Man remake, I felt we got a decent remake already from Paul Verhoven. For the time it came out, the effects for showing Kevin Bacon turning invisible looked both convincing and painful. Also, Bacon's dive into murderous insanity reminds me of Jack Nicholson's Jack from The Shining, being revealed for the monster he is the more he's exposed to this power. Scooby Doo: Return to Zombie Island (2019) - This f-ing movie... How dare they try to write off the chilling supernatural twist elements we loved from the first movie as another generic people in masks plot to get rich quick off pirate treasure. And no, I'm not forgiving it for having Elvira as the host or a character literally named Alan Smithee. Shame on you, Warner Bros. Shame on you! I couldn't decide for Stephen King review; part of me felt either Creepshow 2 or The Running Man. But I still find Creepshow 2 as a guilty pleasure, and I know Doug would get too much of a kick out of Arnold in that movie. I also wasn't sure if he'd try to do both a Stephen King *and* Old vs New of either Carrie or Pet Sematary. For one I think that needs to be torn a new a-hole, I'm now considering, ironically given you mentioned 2006, Desperation (2006). I also would've gone with Cell (2016), but that can wait, since Doug has a thing for checking out Mick Garris movies. First The Shining (1997), then Sleepwalkers (1992), and then The Stand (1994). And to this day, I still have no idea what the evil force was possessing Ron Perlman in that movie.

31:24 That whole "VHS only has a lifespan of 15 years" thing is simply not true, esp. without being given any context on the use and storage of the tape. People not in the hobby don't realize how durable magnetic tapes can be; VHS and Beta tapes from the late-70s to mid-80s are still going strong 40 years later (I can attest to this too), even if they had mold or were stored poorly at some point in their lifetime. Certain brands of 8mm and U-Matic tapes can degrade quicker than normal because of poor manufacturing (don't know of any VHS or Betamax tapes that had this issue), but otherwise can still last longer than 15 years. Also, the whole Disney Black Diamond tapes being worth big money has always been bull malarkey; the fact that they were produced in the millions and no one wanted them post-VHS simply means that the supply and demand wasn't there to justify anything more than $1 a pop (you will be swiftly corrected in any VHS group if you say otherwise, believe me!). A general rule of thumb for VHS is that anything mainstream isn't going to be worth much of anything. As far as the movie, I am still not confident that the whole "control track can tell you where the tape came from" thing is true. While VHS tapes need the control track for the VCR to actually read anything off the tape, I doubt it actually tells you if it came from any specific recording equipment--I should double check that.

I'm curious about something: these guys brought up that VHS tapes, after like fifteen years, become unusable. I can understand that as most old pieces of technology usually decay with age and won't work anymore, but what if you stored the VHS tapes in like an airtight plastic box where no dust or moisture can get in. Would they still work?

What I don't get about the Ring movies is that if the tape has to be watched by someone else to absolve you of your own curse from when you watched it, why isn't there someone who knows about how the curse works just set up a plan where they watch the tape, then afterwards they get someone else to take the tape and throw it into the ocean or something. Yeah, it would take out the last person who watched it, but the curse would be over. No one would watch that thing in the Mariana Trench, dude.
