Great video Steve. The images look great and I’m just really excited. It has a nice Middle-Earth vibe I think. Can’t wait for September. Do you think GW will be able to get the rights for games/models etc?

Thanks for being one of the few voices about this show not shouting gamer-gate era talking points for clicks, we can actually have a more meaningful discussion about it! Ive been pretty disappointed seeing such a harsh immediate backlash from other lotr fans - we havent even seen the trailer yet!

It’s been a mental few days , and I really do think some people will look back at their reactions with regret. Now I’m not saying people with negative points about the show should be regretful, as opinions are a right we all have, but the ones who crossed the lime, and they’ll know who they are. Roll on September.

I have no doubt some genuine LOTR fans are unhappy , however it's also clear that many channels and commentators have an axe to grind and really couldn't care less about Tolkien. It's just another excuse to rant about right wing talking points like woke-ism and diversity quotas and so forth. And then pretending that they aren't going to watch it ! All of this of course was entirely predictable . As for me , I'm cautiously optimistic.

Thanks for this video Steve! it was great to see these images, I honestly am really looking forward to this series, and im in the same mindset as you, i would rather have more Middle Earth content and dive deeper into the world of Lord of the Rings, than to simply not have anything at all. My only complaint about the show is that i have to wait until September :):)

Really enjoyed the video. Very nice summary of the article and I'm completely on board with your position of 'let's go into this with an open mind'. What P.J. did with Middle-Earth was fantastic, but it's time to move on if we want more Tolkien content. I've not read the article, but was very interested by the comment about condensing the story down to a 200 year period. That makes a lot of sense, but has me curious all the same. Very very happy to hear that Khazad-dum will be in there in all it's glory. Can't wait! Thanks for the video Steve, and 'yes' I'd like to see more of this type of thing. Take care.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'm really excited about this show and I have high hopes for it. I have wanted to see the stories in the Silmarillion adapted even since I read it and I would love to see some of these stories on the screen, even if they're not EXACTLY how Tolkien wrote them. Worst case scenario, we will all have something to laugh about in a few years.

From everything we have seen so far I am looking forward to it! Peter Jacksons adaptation of Lord of the Rings is one of the best adaptations out there, and I think people forget he made a lot of changes from the books, but these changes get a pass because they went down well with the audiences. I went into the Hobbit films expecting the Lord of the Rings and that really effected how a saw the Hobbit, I didn't like or fall in love with the films when I watched them in cinema. But Over time I have come to enjoy and even love the Hobbits films just as much as the Lord of the Rings. I will prefer to put on An Unexpected Journey over the Fellowship of the Ring. I'm hoping that when I go into this series I don't make the same mistake. I want enjoy the Rings of Power for what its trying to be without having any expectations of what has come before.

have to say I'm very concerned by the choice of cast and visual style so far which really don't feel like tolkien. it looks like generic cheap high fantasy. early days but nothing I've seen makes me excited so far which is gutting as a lifelong tolkien fan. I'm no absolute die hard who insists on a book to screen adaptation by any means but knowing the characters in depth none look right. elrond in particular is just laughably wrong, almost like he's being cosplayed. they're all too young. i get the characters were *younger* but they weren't 17! hopefully a decent trailer will help me see it in a new light. not writing it off but i was hoping for a more encouraging start.
@TopTableGaming2 жыл бұрын
I’m looking at it with open arms and embracing what comes. I understand your concerns, as you probably have (like me and most others), a vision that we’ve built in our heads for many years, how things should look and feel, but I thought about it a lot and am actually excited to see other peoples interpretations. Pre movies, Vigo was never aragorn, John wasn’t gimli, now it’s then who those names conjure in my head and I wouldn’t have it any other way. But I totally get that not every one else thinks like me and that’s cool, thats what makes discussion and chatter. The way it’s already introduced me to new people is fantastic.
@TexasFriedCriminal2 жыл бұрын
Given that the destructions of the first age were limited to Beleriand, which sank beneath the waves, there really shouldn't be any big ruins during most of the second age. The look of the movies and the descriptions from LotR include many ruins because now Eriador has seen the wars and devastations of the second and third age, but those are still to come. Also, I think the choice of not having beards on the female dwarfs feels cowardly. It would probably have been a hard sale, as facial hair on women is one of the big taboos and about as far from our image of female beauty as you can get, but it would have shown the courage to commit to Tolkien's vision and if the actress, director and camera had done a good enough job, I think they could have transcended the likely laughter and build the strength of the character right over the small mindedness of the audience.
@AndrewMcColl2 жыл бұрын
We've seen a single actress in a single pose, so let's not make sweeping assumptions about their choices just yet. Hopefully we'll see more in the trailer.
@TopTableGaming2 жыл бұрын
I’m not 100% sure that we won’t see beards on the dwarf females, In fact I kinda think we will, and this female could have hair on her chin line that the image just isn’t showing up very well. We’re just not sure either way I kind of agree that it would be a nice touch to add that and if it’s not there it won’t ruin it for me but I will think “yes they could’ve done that and it would’ve been fine “
@clownofthetimes67272 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, modern hair cuts make me feel that the producers dont have an eye for detail.
@TopTableGaming2 жыл бұрын
I mean to be fair, we don’t know what hair cuts would be “modern” or not in a make believe world. This is not “our history” remember.
@clownofthetimes67272 жыл бұрын
@@TopTableGaming It is a make believe world with definition and detail. Details such as what elves look like. They do not look like this. There is so much detail in the books about elves that I am stunned that they have got them so wrong. Elrond looks like Harry Styles and Galadriel a Joan of arc rip off. Not to mention the short cropped hair of the silvan elf. The producers have no eye for detail in this regards and it feels very dungeons and dragons.

Got to admit I'm really disappointed and disheartened. Not with the show or the direction it's going in, but in the community of Tolkien/Middle Earth 'fans'. To be honest it's rather pathetic. My favourite was the guy complaining about the 'guy wearing a t-shirt' as I got to remind him that tunics and jerkins are indeed things that exist. But yes, the negativity is a shame. I hope it's a case of those complaining simply being louder than everyone else (as is usually the case).
@AndrewMcColl2 жыл бұрын
@BloodBought Son that's fine, but not even JRR kept things consistent across his entire body of work. For instance, the origin of orcs changed over the years. PJ took material from the latter books (with some additions to help it suit the format) then people got mad because it wasn't just the original story. I think we have to understand that no TV or film presentation is ever going to be 100% faithful to the original text. Especially for parts of the story with relatively little written about them.
@PaintbrushPirate2 жыл бұрын
@BloodBought Son yes I know they do, but that's exactly the same with every book to screen adaptation. What I'm saying is people need to stop being so anti something before it's even aired. The writers and producers of these shows have more talent than any of us could ever hope to possess, I'm sure they know what they're doing.
