I hate to be so negative (congratulations on getting the interviews and being able to give them the trivia btw!), but it is downright depressing (or indeed infuriating) to see how little Kinnear cares about the story he’s gonna be playing such a beloved character in. Constantly making unrelated jokes, doesn’t give a whit about the subject. Weyman is excited at least despite not knowing the lore, but we’ve seen already that he’s done a very good performance in S1, so that’s alright. All the others are great! As this was the first interview I’ve seen Hazeldine in, I must say I am impressed with how happy he seems to be there.

The moment Vigo Mortensen got the part for Aragorn, he read all the books trough and trough to create the perfect character for Aragorn. Because the works of tolkien deserve nothing less! These poeple have not read a single word from the books and maybe saw the movie ones. Seeing them sitting here making jokes. Finding it difficult naming the character from the fellowship is just so cringe. Its just so disrespect. Its then better to make nothing at all. Really hope season two will be the last season! And that is a good thing.

Now in fairness I adore LOTR and its cast with my entire soul but I don't think all of them went IN being as knowledgeable and enthusiastic as they are now or as they grew in the 18 months they spent in that world. And any actor will research their part. This show is like a less immersive life altering experience for these guys, just by the nature of it. I think they can still care without being experts. I understand you though I did go into this video seeing the title thinking "please know something or you'll be eaten alive even further" 😂. Honestly I'm glad they still care this much considering how horrible people have been about them and the series.

Their love for the books shows in the films, that I think is lacking in this series It's absolutely OK to joke around answers but I don't believe they knew a lot. Celebrian is not of any importance for the story. Neither in the show nor in the books. I hope there will be enough time to show her and Elrond in Rivendell. It's not important at all that Celebrimbor created the Three alone as long as _Sauron_ is not present. And he is definitely not present in the show when Celebrimbor creates the rings. And it is absolutely not important that the Three were the last ones that Celebrimbor created. If they were made first or last does not change any character or any of the following events. Melian, Gandalf, Radagast, Saruman and two other Maiar, most likely the two Blues, had already been in Middle-earth during the Years of the Trees as "the Guardians" of the Elves in Cuivienen. The two Blue Wizards came back to Middle-earth during the _Second_ _Age_ , around the same time as Glorfindel. And about Gandalf Tolkien wrote: „That Olórin, as was possible for one of the Maiar, had already visited Middle-earth and had become acquainted not only with the Sindarin Elves and others deeper in Middle-earth, but also with Men, is likely, but nothing is (has yet been) said of this.“ (J.R.R. Tolkien, The Peoples of Middle-earth - Part 2, Chapter XIII, "Last Writings, p.381")

The common interpretation is that this does not work because of the three (check Unfinished Tales), that were a surprise to Sauron and therefore there was an uncomfortable double surprise from both sides. The importance is that they are the cuspid of Celebrimbor Art and a surprise to Sauron. Then yeah, I don't know what Melian has to do with this (you could have cited Orome or whatever you wanted) but an Istar its not Olorin, or any Ainur, its a very specific term for the form of 5 of them in a very specific time period. Could Olorin have been in middle earth? Yeah... And? And Celebrian might not be important, but Galadriel being older than the Sun is, and she having a stable partner probably too, if you want to represent the character with a bit of fidelity, without the need for her of having to find herself

Sauron knows about them anyway. He kills Celebrimbor, because Celebrimbor refuses to tell him were they are. Melian was the leader of the „Guardians“. Check out The Nature of Middle-earth, "Part One. Time and Ageing: XIII. It was you who doubted that the showrunners know the history of the Istari, not me. That’s why I mentioned the Guardians and Tolkien’s quote about Olorin. If you call them Guardians, Istari or Wizards is just semantics They are Maiar, and they are send to Middle-earth to help the free people in their fight against Sauron. End of story. Galadriel spent more than 7000 years, or more than 2,5 million days in Middle-earth trying to find herself. "It was not until two long ages more had passed, when at last all that she had desired in her youth came to her hand, the Ring of Power and the dominion of Middle-earth of which she had dreamed, that her wisdom was full grown and she rejected it, and passing the last test departed from Middle-earth for ever." (Unfinished Tales). Note Tolkien’s choice of words. It’s not THE test, it’s the LAST test.

The focus of the show is the forging of the Rings of Power, the destruction of Eregion, the Fall of Numenor and the coming of Elendil to Middle-earth + the War of the Last Alliance. There might be some spin offs later on. Maybe then we get the story of Elrond and Celebrian.
