The Ringtones are NOT The Same! Panasonic KX-TGA402 vs Panasonic KX-TGA101S

Comparing the ringtones on two Panasonic cordless phones, model KX-TGA402 and KX-TG101S, to provide clear and convincing evidence that the ringtones are not the same.

I think when most people say they're the same they're referring to the concept, and not the "quality" of the sound per se. In other words, they're suggesting that the same "set" of ringers exists on both those models (which is true), as opposed to something like 103x and 607x which have an entirely different set that aren't comparable in the slightest. If the ringer pitch on an instance of a 2500 and an instance of a 500 were slightly different due to an imperfectly sized bell or something, I wouldn't call them a different ringtone, I would call them the same ringtone with a different pitch, same apples with the bell sound vs electronic sound here.

Theory understood, but I cannot accept it when there is this much of a difference. The sound of rings 1, 2, and 3 have such a unique tone to them that I like one a lot and the other not so much. The 2500 ringers are not comparable in this case, they may have a slightly different frequency or pitch to them, but they all sound like exactly what they are-metal gongs sounding. To me these ringers would be like the striker hitting a metal gong vs. a plastic gong.

I would actually still call a metal vs plastic gong the same ringtone but with a different sound, because the same theory still remains behind it. A better comparison would be playing the same song on a clarinet vs a trumpet-doesn't make it a different song.

I've noticed a similar thing with the KX-TGEA20s that came with a KX-TGE270 set bought around 2013 or 2014 and the KX-TGDA52s (and additional 51) that came with a KX-TG833 set that was set up two years ago. They must have updated the ringtones because I tested several additional handsets, such as a KX-TGEA40 and even an additional KX-TGEA20 and they all have the new ringtones.

What’s odd to me about the 2010 models such as the ones that included the 402 handset, is that the ringtones aren’t the same across all the optional handset models listed in the manual. For all 2010 models except the KX-TG658x, you have these handset choices: KX-TGA401 KX-TGA651 KX-TGA750 KX-TGA401 and 651 have the same tones, which are also used on the 652 and 653. The 402 and 750 have the same first 5 tones, but different melodies. For all these handsets, the first 5 tones have the same concept.

I don't believe there's any way for the answering machine to take calls immediately, that sounds more like an issue with your phone service provider.
