Ahmed Johnson arrived in the WWF in 1995, and while his wrestling skills needed some work, he immediately impressed Vince McMahon and the WWF fans on his debut. Ahmed Johnson has the charisma of a real superstar, and he stood out amongst the WWF wrestlers of the New Generation. Johnson became the first African American Intercontinental Champion in WWE history and the future looked promising, but then it all came crashing down. @@nathanshaw9688 That was the norm back in the day, games had such a long production cycle, that the rosters were always outdated. WCW SuperBrawl on the SNES was released in late 1994 with a mid-1992 roster. WWF Royal Rumble on the Mega Drive had a 6 month old roster and so on. Warzone had a infamous long production cycle because the developers constantly ran into problems, like the limited amount of Ram. Originally it was supposed to be released in the Summer of 1997.

Yoy have it wrong. Ahmed was exacting revenge on Farooq. Farooqs debut on wwf he was running g with that blue gladiator gimmick. He interfered in a match an kicked Ahmed in the ribs. Ahmed was sidelined for a while after that, When came back into action, farooq was no longer doing that blue gladiator gimmick and this is when Ahmed then kicked farooq in the ribs sidelining him.

Ahmed is definitely one of my favorites from the latter half of the New Generation era. I think his biggest problem as a performer is that he didn't play to his strengths, being that he's supposed to be a powerhouse, NOT a Highflyer; something I believe contributed a lot to his body breaking down and becoming injury prone. It also didn't help that he was a danger to his opponents as well.

He was nothing, that's the problem. Wasn't really spectacular in the ring, couldn't cut a promo to save his life, had no clue about selling or ring psychology, was injury prone, was clumsy and injured countless other wrestlers. There really was no upside to him. Add to that, that by all accounts he was a bad, arrogant human being (everybody is racist according to him, even Mark Henry, lol) and it's no wonder he didn't make it.

For anyone who's too young to remember or wasn't even born yet, here we go: Ahmed Johnson was never good in the ring or on the mic, and should count himself lucky that he ever got a run with the Intercontinental Championship. Just remember he won that title at the same King Of The Ring ppv where Steve Austin won the tournament, launching Austin 3:16. By 1997 no one wanted to work with Ahmed because he was dangerous, and even the Nation Of Domination rejected him in favour of a barely known young man called Rocky Maivia. Looking back as someone who lived through that era, there was never any room for Ahmed Johnson in the WWF World Championship picture, not only because of the rise of Austin but also having the likes of Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, the Undertaker, Vader and Sycho Sid on the roster.....but of course it's 2023 now, so everything has to be because of racism 🥱

I didn't know Ahmed went to WCW, but I always wondered what happened to him. I wish you'd covered his real life heat with Ron Simmons in more detail. I know he injured Simmons at some point and put him out for months, and I know when he did return, he beat Ahmed like a government mule, but I would have loved to know which matches they were. He also claims it was Austin who vandalized his car, which is just ridiculous. Steve did address it during a conversation with Mark Henry on his podcast, but hasn't discussed it otherwise.

@adamirishconundrum851 Agreed👍 Ron Simmons, Mark Henry, Kama/The Godfather, The Rock etc who were all at the company at same time as Ahmed all went on to be multiple times champions including The Rock & Mark Henry becoming World Champions with The Kama having one of the most popular gimmicks as The Godfather and Ron Simmons having one of the coolest & badass gimmicks in the APA with Bradshaw. They were all very close friends with the rest of boys, loved by the fans and never complained about experiencing racism in WWE during this period and up until the end of their careers were as Ahmed was the only one who complained. The rest became well deserved ‘Hall of Famers’ except Ahmed who in reality was dangerous to work with in the ring, difficult to work with backstage, had little to no charisma, was never over or a draw of any kind and had delusions of grandeur believing he should be in the main event and was on the same level as the Main Event talent at the time like HBK, Sycho SID, Steve Austin, Undertaker & Bret Hart. When you have very big guys like who actually got over like SID & Vader who could cut intense promos and had devastating looking moves and who were draws especially in the case of SID during his tenure in the company who became World Champion twice because he earned it based on merit. Those guys were the real “powerhouses” during that period in the company. Ahmed was boring to watch unless he was tagged with HBK carrying the matches. Him not getting the push he thought he deserved had nothing to do with race

Ahmed Johnson had some potential that was unfortunately never realized. He had a good look, intensity, and athleticism that could have made him WWE's version of Goldberg. The problem was he wasn't booked that way. Like Goldberg, his limited ability should have been hidden by short squash matches. They should have also kept him as far away from a microphone as possible. Add to that the fact that he was prone to injury. Bad booking and bad luck are mostly what got in his way.

Of course, when I play the wrestling boardgame Face To The Mat, I have guys use the piledriver all the time, for two reasons. Only speaking to the people that were ALIVE and watching at the time… Ahmed Johnson would’ve been WAY MORE over than Shawn Michaels if he was the champion in 96. Same goes with Vader AND Psycho Sid. I’m sure Shawn new that and made sure they weren’t pushed anymore 🤷🏽‍♂️ I’ve heard all the stories and I’m sure Ahmed was prolly an asshole and definitely green, but remember this is 95/96. Shawn,Bret, Owen and Kid were the only ones actually doing moves and a “good promo” was just loud yelling and ppv promoting. Ahmed was huge, explosive, and the fans cheered for him louder than anyone besides Brett and Vader.

Funny how everyone likes to forget that Simmons injured Ahmed first with a stiff kick to the kidney when he debuted in that ridiculous gladiator outfit. Yes, it seems that Ahmed had a terrible attitude but Ron Simmons is hardly an innocent victim in this.
