Alberto del Rio had a lot of potential. He has impressive pedigree, he’s got charisma, and he’s pretty damn good in the ring. What held him back is his attitude and his actions towards people. He was given numerous chances and he threw them all away. No wonder he’s pretty much persona non grata these days.

"This case being dropped due to a witness not showing up proves that I didn't do anything wrong, and I'll get my ex fired from her job if she ever says anything bad about me again" Probably sums up Alberto's character quite well. Guilty of all charges or not, the guy just can't help but be the heel in real life.

I love how WWE is open about their desire/need to find a Rey Mysterio replacement, and yet, Rey has pretty much outlasted those they threw into the mix thus far (of course he's made it clear he does plan on retiring soonish, so this may change), and of all the replacements, Del Rio was probably the closest. If WWE wasn't fumbling the ball, he did that bit himself, and it's kind of sad to see because he was a really freakin' good heel.
@JorgeGarcia-gp5cf
@JorgeGarcia-gp5cf Жыл бұрын
What is even funnier now is that the replacement for Rey (Dragon Lee) just naturally came up on his own merit. They also learned this time to let him get used to the WWE way and let him grow over time instead of just handing him the top spot.

@TALISCA666 The issue is WWE has always tried to push for "X person's replacement" stars until they realise it doesn't work like that. They then give up and accept they can't do a 1 to 1 replacement until the next guy starts getting close to retirement and then they try the whole process again

I was a big fan of Del Rio during his early WWE run. He was given the keys to the kingdom from day one, getting that early program with Rey Mysterio and going on to win the Royal Rumble about six months or so after his in-ring debut, and while he lost to Edge at WrestleMania, he was given another opportunity with the Money in the Bank contract. That level of faith from WWE is one that they don't show very often. He ticked a lot of boxes that the company would want and had everything in his arsenal to be a major player for WWE for the next decade. Unfortunately, his attitude cost him everything. I'm glad the company saw the writing on the wall and got him the hell away from there. Also, while we're on the subject (27:00), the WWE really has to stop with this "next Rey Mysterio" fixation. We gotta recognise that Rey is one of a kind and can't easily be replaced. They've tried it with countless masked wrestlers over the past decade to unearth his successor, yet he's still on the roster moving as good as he has in years.

The Gimmick was really amazing tbh and he played it so well. I think what sold it was the inventive way of getting into the ring. He drove into the stadium with fancy cars, his own personal ring announcer introduced him, *Then* he stepped onto the ramp, and the unique glittering stars pyro popped behind him. That's how you make a star. It makes him feel like a big deal before he shows up to the ring, same reason Gunther's entrances feel so special. Unique things that make each Wrestler feel their own and get across their character before even starting the Match.

Vince was trying to appeal to what would be a hometown crowd, bc after Summerslam 2011 there was a tour of the southwest US as well as Mexico, so Vince wanted them to be able to cheer for someone they knew well. I don't understand why Alberta Del Rio is labeled as a criminal despite the fact that nothing's come out to say that he is it's not very fair. Everybody is free to a fair trial. Now you can say he's un professional but a criminal it's not been proven.

I did post that before I watched but the case where he Abused that woman has no evidence. And I don't think that Page is fully innocent in that relationship ether. Not saying he didn't abuse her but I think they were as bad as each other.

Do you truly believe that laws are not maneuverable? Bad people are very often not convicted for their crimes. When it comes to sexual assault for example, that is considered to be one of the hardest things to prove because there is no physical evidence to get 50% of the time. Same for the other forms of abuse it’s easier to get out of those things especially when you know the right people & have a good lawyer. Many examples of this throughout human history. Maybe you’re right, maybe he isn’t a criminal. But he is not a good person & definitely walks the line of crime considering he’s has so many accusations.

When Del Rio was good he was great. But once your backstage issues come to light it can change how fans see you. Miz's character is meant to be hated but majority of us do like him and know he paid way more dues than he should have, so don't pick a fight with someone a lot of people like 😂 The last 8 years have just woo... He is a piece of work. It's hilarious how he tries to say WWE wants him back... No they don't. There are a bunch of other Lucha style wrestlers who are not problematic.

And I don't blame the dude for slapping tf out of the backstage dude. Racist jokes aren't funny and if you think they are you are also a problem... There is a fine line between race jokes and racist jokes.

So let me get this straight. Edge informed WWE that he needed to retire, the day after Mania, where he unexpectedly retained the World title. I call bullshit. Edge told WWE privately and they wanted him to win his final match and go out on a high. They lied to Del Rio because he'd be pissed if he knew he was losing, only for the title to be vacated immediately after. Adding to this theory, Edge would have been a bit of an asshole to lie to his employer, take an unnecessary title win, days before retiring, when he could have put Del Rio over on his way out.

Sure, that's a likely series of events concerning the matter - but the public story has always been consistent, which is that Edge retained and then found out about his neck issues, told the company immediately and then retired seven days later. It's also not completely against the idea of 'E to just do something for the sake of a swerve, as the Roman Experiment was derailed twice at Wrestlemanias 31 and 34 for the sake of not going the obvious route.

When I was down in Monterrey Mexico, I saw a banner with Del Rio on it advertising him for a match. It was strange, but cool to see what had happened to him. It didn't seem like a bad gig for him, but the stadium was somewhat rundown and in the hood "barrio" lol. AAA was a good sight too. Vikingo surprised me.

He has great talent, but somehow, he seemed to believe he was" destined "for everything. As a heel, that's the image for the fans ,but backstage....your co-workers make YOU look 👍, so appreciate them. Treat the coworkers like crap and we'll, you can rise just as easily as you fall. Essentially an Hispanic Ultimate Warior.
