Goals and assists when playing in his favoured No. 10 position showed what a talent Arshavin was. Arshavin lost faith with Wenger when shunted out wide. Much of the criticism should go to Wenger, who bought Arshavin without planning how to combine him with Fabregas and Nasri who also wanted to play in the same position.

He had brilliant moments. A very intense private life as well. He is mentioned many times in Fernando Ricksen's (ex Zenith and unfortunately passed away already) biography. The booze and coke stories are on a Motley Crue level. Arshavin often wasnt able to train after heavy partying and sometimes showed up so drunk that he couldnt walk. Coach Advocaat did the impossible with Zenith during that time winning the Uefa Cup.

Great channel but just a correction on one thing: The booing during his substitution vs Man United was NOT directed at Arshavin. Ox-Chamberlain had been the man of the match during that game and the crowd were showing their dissaproval of Wenger's decision. Even RVP was seen reacting in frustration as well towards Wenger in that incident. It had nothing to do with Arshavin.

I remember that Arshavin for Oxlade-Chamberlain substitution. I don’t think the fans had any issue with the introduction of Arshavin, but took exception to bringing Chamberlain off. If he had enough age on his side, he'd have left arsenal for greener pastures after Wenger turned the club into mediocre. I don't buy the whole financial constant story. Wenger just didn't strike the right balance between building a team that's consistently competing and also building a stadium. Not saying it would be easy, but seeing the players Wenger brought in then, one could argue Wenger could've done better. If that team had slightly better players than we had then, and Wenger was also on his A-game, we could've won at least two EPL titles before Wenger left. In all, I love Wenger but I can't help but be mad at him for his contribution to bringing this club to the level it is today.

Is Arshavin though not like so many other football players. They might have 5 brilliant years, and the rest is just so and so. I think for anybody doing any job, there comes a point where there is just not so much motivation left. His initial years as could be seen by his brilliance at Euro 2008 were fueled by a desire for achieveing something bigger and better, but once that has been achieved, as is the case for so many players, they are just satisfied with what they have achieved and let their careers falter.
