I, as a Blur fan, hate how the Brit pop crowd has so much hatred and controversy, just why not enjoy the music and not judge anyone for their choice
@Kyall18211 ай бұрын
to be honest, I think it's more the 'Stone Island warriors' that bring hate, cos britpop is a brilliant genre of music, one of the best imo. just some absolute idiots attaching themselves to it 🤘🏻

Manic Street Preachers, Supergrass, The Seahorses, The Charlatans, The Verve, Suede (they had some 5-6 albums after their debut, especially the "Coming Up" album!), Cast, Travis, Echobelly, Stereophonics etc. - all these were Britpop in the 1995-1999 era.

Space, Ash, Longpigs definitely. Super Furry Animals and Kenickie also in that sphere of influence. But more than those the band who haven't been mentioned who I remember being seen as kind of emblematic of Britpop _at the time_ (alongside Blur, Oasis and Supergrass) were Ocean Colour Scene.
@jonathanreich63609 ай бұрын
The idea that nothing was going on with English bands in the 1980s is crazy. You had Echo & the Bunnymen, New Order, Robyn Hitchcock & the Egyptians, Lloyd Cole & the Commotions, the Jesus & Mary Chain, Cocteau Twins, Duran Duran, Elvis Costello, Ian Dury & the Blockheads, The Raincoats, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Gang of Four, Wire, The Clash, The Cure, Tears for Fears, Peter Gabriel, The Police, Japan, PiL, Psychedelic Furs, Bauhaus (later Love & Rockets), Lush, Yazoo, Depeche Mode, Bill Nelson's bands, Gary Numan, Simple Minds, Ultravox, XTC, and Howard Devoto's various bands to name some.

Prime Oasis is still a GOAT level band. Most bands have all their hits scattered across their complete discography but Oasis put out 2 or 3 bands' greatest hits inside of 4 years 94 - 98. And even though the rest of their discography is Silver age material, they still had BRILLIANT songs on those post Classic era records.
@fredsystra758411 ай бұрын
Oasis is bigger then all of these bands combined in record sales which is baffling
@thomasandersen671911 ай бұрын
I like Oasis but to be honest they sound very dated on the radio in 2023. Their sound is stuck in the mid 90's as they never really evolved like Blur and other bands from that time. I rarely listen to Oasis and when I do it's their first two albums and nothing after that as noel is a good but very one dimensional songwriter when in Oasis (he has matured since as he got older) Blurs new album is brilliant

I’d love to see this type of video made about Radiohead, because while yeah, so much has been said about them that it’s hard to not repeat overstated points, but c’mon man, just look at Jonny Greenwood - He’s the one true British treasure (aside from Thom Yorke’s voice and every member of Radiohead’s individual side projects).

Was The Verve not as big in the UK? I lived through Britpop being the trendy imported beer of Alternative Rock in the 90s and The Verve were bigger than Blur, Elastica, Pulp and The London Suede (as we called them).

Other symbol for this is punk music (art in general). I’d love to see a bit about Ukraine’s punk music scene post-invasion. I promise you will be impressed.
