I don't know. I was there. I have never seen a bigger difference from pre judging to finals in my life. I was a Gunters biggest fan and was rooting for him, but in prejudging I didn't even have him in my top 5 ( probably 6 or 7th ) When he made the top 6, thus getting in the posedown, in the night show he just looked amazing, and was IMO was the best bodybuilder on the stage for the finals. He just couldn't over come the prejudging, which imo was totally warranted. Ronnie had a Gut, levrone no legs, Cormier had the best flow but super soft. Guys were off.

I was a 100% Ronnie fan but Gunter made it that day. He deserved the win. RIP Gustavo Badell. These were good old times. When I started bodybuilding.

Gunter got special invites because of his personality. There is a video out there in a presser before an Olympia where he and Ronnie got in a pose down during the question and ask session. It was between two 300 pound monsters. Gunter now trains folks and is living a great life. He’s just an awesome dude.

As a 1993 world amateur champ class winner he had an automatic invite to the following years Mr Olympia. That is how it worked back then.

I met Gunter years ago in his prime. He was very friendly nice guy, one of the nicest pro bbs I have met.

Gunter came to my gym and one of my friends called me and told me he was there. So I went and watched him work out. He was very nice and talked to everyone. Even a couple of stupid teens who asked him some stupid questions, but Gunter was totally cool the whole time. He even talked to me and when I said that I had met him a few months earlier at the Arnold, he said that he remembered our conversation. I doubt it, but it was cool of him to say so. Fun day. I'll always be a fan. Never was a fan of Ronnie who really blew me off badly at the Arnold and just treated me with disdain. Geez, I just asked for an autograph. Well, bodybuilders should know that the fans are important because there aren't as many as other sports. Very important to be like Gunter and not like Ronnie.

Very nice video Mark.I am a fan of Günther because he was just a very kind, he’s also German and was a tall guy with wider hips like me. Btw in an German interview he claimed to be 186 cm that would be 6'1.2 and he claimed that Toney freeman was about an inch taller than him

I think the reason why gunter didn’t win was because people were gonna complain about another 6 foot blonde German charismatic winning the Olympia, like Arnold, and jay cutler , even though jay was like 5’10, they would start to be accused of picking a “Type” and yeah jay and Arnold weren’t German but, blonde hair blue eyes, it’s gonna get people talking

Gunter was one of those pros who was simply an approachable, good dude. A guys guy, like Ronnie, but Gunter had a charisma on and off stage that Ronnie lacked. He was just a likeable guy with a bad ass physique, tall, and caried that mass perfectly for his height. Definitely got robbed on placings at the majority of his pro shows.

I saw him at the Arnold classic when he was not competing and always smiling. He is my height 6:2 Arnold was maybe 1 millimeter shorter than me but he had heels on.

Look at how tall is Ronnie looks in these pics standing next to Gunter in thr first fee seconds and then go look how big Hadi looks next to him in the othrr shots. My suggestion is this go look at the pictures of Ronnie and Gunter and the shop him in there. Hadi's center of mass would he down at their their stomachs. He would literally be dwarfed in the truest sense of the word and. It doesnt fully show on side by sides like these. I hipe AI can help with this soon.
