Oh christ. As an American trying to go across the pond for life, I'm ever so glad that Blobby didn't get imported over here. We already had Barney. That was enough.
@OnlyEpicEmber
@OnlyEpicEmber 6 жыл бұрын
I've honestly never found Barney that offensive. My brother has one of the rarest and most expensive pieces of Barney merchandise, an animatronic toy that sings, plays games and can interact with a VHS tape and a PC game. It's actually really cool and was way ahead of its time, made by Microsoft. Because of his learning disability, he's had it since it was new and still plays with it to this day and despite now knowing every song off by heart, I still don't find it annoying. They also made Teletubby versions, and I will concede that they are annoying. Thankfully, we don't have the Teletubby version.

There is a legend that an angel appeared to George Washington and granted him a vision of what was to come to inspire him to continue to fight. It is now believed that the vision was of Mr Blobby and Crazy Frog. Thus, the fight for independence became all the more important.

I think all the mania surrounding Mr. Blobby might have taken its toll on Noel Edmonds' mental health, and partially explain why he ended up shooting Clive Anderson on that fatal night.

Years and years ago, one of my mates was playing the Blobby theme tune, and told me to listen to the words. One of the verses sounds like it says "no waist too low, he'll give it a blow." I've never looked up the actual lyrics. I don't want to. I want to believe that it I'm right.

Despite being an American and not knowing any of these shows, I found this video fascinating and engaging. The UK audience my age gets to share in the nostalgia of their time while watching this video. While for me, I just get to learn about a media of a country that shares the same language. I am glad I found your channel as I often get to learn about games and mass media history that is completely new to me. Also weird children shows seem to be a universal. In the age of Trump, we can all come together and share in our common experience of really weird kids shows.

I was working in manufacturing back in the late 1990's. I remember one of my workmates bought a new toolbox. It disappeared off to our paint shop overnight (there was a night shift) and when he came to work in the morning, his brand new toolbox had been sprayed in Mr Blobby colours - pink with yellow spots. He was not amused...

Australia understands, we had our own "Noel Edmonds - House Party - Mr. Blobby" combo. The show was called Hey Hey It's Saturday, hosted by Darryl Somers. It started as a morning kids show and eventually became a Saturday evening variety/light entertainment show for the whole family. The individual in question was called Plucka Duck. Plucka was mute, so we may have the advantage here.

Skegness High Street once featured a small open fronted store, dressed as a cartoon-ish living room, inviting young holidaymakers to have a photo taken with the one and only Mr *Blotty!* A quarter of a century on and the image has never faded of that pitifully scrawny Mr Blobby knockoff, with way too many spots which made him look dangerously infected, seated on an oversized rocking chair, waving at horrified passing children. I can only imagine how that would have affected hallucinogenic substance users walking by.

The people who made the "Mr. Blobby" video game just didn't think too hard about the character or just weren't very creative back then. The way to make a proper "Mr. Blobby" video game is to have a game where the controls are really crap and unresponsive, change on you, or have some really complex, ridiculous control scheme that makes Blobby extremely difficult to control, and the slightest movement of that controller in any direction makes Blobby bump into things, smashing them to pieces, or knocking people over. It's like the people who made this game never saw Blobby in the show. The fun of the game would be trying to control this completely UNCONTROLLABLE character. That in essence is Mr. Blobby.

I quite liked Noel's House Party...my favourite parts being where they'd cut to a hidden camera in people's living rooms so Noel could interview them a bit (their friends or family would nominate them), and Neil Morrissey from Men Behaving Badly as an idiot window cleaner. Great video, thank you for taking the time to put it together, very well-organized ^^ You know, for better of for worse, you've gotta hand it to Noel Edmonds for continuously getting back up and trying again even after he goes down in flames. I'm from the US, back when I was in high school in the mid-90s I went to the UK with my British literature class during our spring break. This was when I had first heard of Mister Blobby, when someone in our group bought an inflatable version of him, to this day I have a photo of it XD Naturally at the time there was nothing like youtube and so I hadn't had a chance to actually see Blobby in action or really find out what it was all about, but every English person I spoke to over the years knew what he was (and would usually respond to a mention of him with "Oh, God..." XD ) With your video finally I got an in-depth documentary, so thank you for filling me in after all those years, haha!

The late late breakfast show is remembered for several accidents during its regular "Give it a Whirl" stunt slot; in particular the death of Michael Lush. The show was cancelled by the BBC on 15 November 1986, following the death of Lush two days earlier. While rehearsing a bungee jump to be performed live on the show, Michael Lush plunged 120 feet (37 m) to his death when his rope came loose. Noel Edmonds quit the show immediately afterwards.

I hated it, making someone look like a fool on national television while that bearded twat laughed at how stupid the great unwashed working class were. Remember that awful Jeremy Beadle show where they used to prank people? That got shelved when one of the actors got stabbed by a pitchfork after the production crew had destroyed this poor old guys garden. Im amazed more people wernt injured due to that show, if I found someone destroying my property I really dont know if I could refrain from attacking the cunts.

Anyone here ever saw Basil's swap shop? It was Noel Edmund's swap shop, with Basil Brush as a co-host and it aired on CBBC in the mid-late 2000's. They even made a Basil Brush's game show spin off. On the DVDs for the old Doctor Who season-long story arc "Trial of a Timelord", one of the extras is a series of trailers for the show and for the BBC's Saturday night lineup for the time (late 1986), as well as continuity announcements. One of which is the announcement of the cancellation of the Late Late Breakfast Show following the fatal stunt, which threw me for a loop to the point that I had to go and look it up. There's something faintly unbelievable about that whole era of TV, and while Mr. Blobby was a bit after that there's still a certain "programming from a Cyberpunk dystopia" vibe.

Mr. Blobby Colostomy bag sounds like the true origin rather than merchandise. "He's blobby to so you can't feel the texture of your waste"

Before the Teletubbies rotted our brains, Mr. Blobby was an unintentional joke on British TV that tried to rot brains (and failed).

So I come from this as an American who only learned of Mr. Blobby and Noel Edmonds through my love of Red Dwarf and they appeared in a special relating to the show. I thought the thing was creepy then. Now I'm more concerned about England's mental health more than ever.

I unapologetically own a Mr Blobby action figure. I bought so it could menace mr Doctor Who action figures.

Thanks for doing this. I was living in the UK just as the whole Blobby thing peaked but since us kids didn't watch that much mainstream TV (80s post-hippie parents) I had no bloody idea what all my schoolmates were on about.

Best video ever. Next video should be on the rise and fall of Sooty and Sweep, and sweeps fall from grace when he crashed the sooty van drunk and entered rehab....

Okay well I don't like the idea of mr. Blobby wearing yellow suspenders in that one video because now I assume he's just naked in everything else

Should be noted, Blobby was intentionally designed to be disturbing as hell. That he looked horrifying and spoke like he was possessed by a monosyllabic demon was part of the joke.

I just came from watching the Mr. Blobby song video without any context other than “It’s a song and it’s really really bad”. I needed context and 2 minutes in, I have it. Thank you so very very much.

Oh I assure you, the US had its own light entertainment in the form of (mostly) 70s variety shows. There were a ton of them and every single one is painful and embarrassing to watch. One was hosted by the freaking Brady Bunch, except for the actress who played Jan, who wanted nothing to do with the stupid thing and was replaced by a completely different actress. The variety show finally died out with Pink Lady And Jeff, in which NBC accidentally hired a Japanese singing duo who couldn't understand English.

"This is what British television would look like if the nazis won the war." As evidenced by the fact that this is pretty much what all German TV looks like to this day.
