@OnlyEpicEmber6 жыл бұрын
I've honestly never found Barney that offensive. My brother has one of the rarest and most expensive pieces of Barney merchandise, an animatronic toy that sings, plays games and can interact with a VHS tape and a PC game. It's actually really cool and was way ahead of its time, made by Microsoft. Because of his learning disability, he's had it since it was new and still plays with it to this day and despite now knowing every song off by heart, I still don't find it annoying. They also made Teletubby versions, and I will concede that they are annoying. Thankfully, we don't have the Teletubby version.

Despite being an American and not knowing any of these shows, I found this video fascinating and engaging. The UK audience my age gets to share in the nostalgia of their time while watching this video. While for me, I just get to learn about a media of a country that shares the same language. I am glad I found your channel as I often get to learn about games and mass media history that is completely new to me. Also weird children shows seem to be a universal. In the age of Trump, we can all come together and share in our common experience of really weird kids shows.

I was working in manufacturing back in the late 1990's. I remember one of my workmates bought a new toolbox. He was not amused...

Australia understands, we had our own "Noel Edmonds - House Party - Mr. Blobby" combo. The show was called Hey Hey It's Saturday, hosted by Darryl Somers. It started as a morning kids show and eventually became a Saturday evening variety/light entertainment show for the whole family. The individual in question was called Plucka Duck. Plucka was mute, so we may have the advantage here.

Skegness High Street once featured a small open fronted store, dressed as a cartoon-ish living room, inviting young holidaymakers to have a photo taken with the one and only Mr *Blotty!* A quarter of a century on and the image has never faded of that pitifully scrawny Mr Blobby knockoff, with way too many spots which made him look dangerously infected, seated on an oversized rocking chair, waving at horrified passing children. I can only imagine how that would have affected hallucinogenic substance users walking by.

The people who made the "Mr. Blobby" video game just didn't think too hard about the character or just weren't very creative back then. The way to make a proper "Mr. Blobby" video game is to have a game where the controls are really crap and unresponsive, change on you, or have some really complex, ridiculous control scheme that makes Blobby extremely difficult to control, and the slightest movement of that controller in any direction makes Blobby bump into things, smashing them to pieces, or knocking people over. It's like the people who made this game never saw Blobby in the show. The fun of the game would be trying to control this completely UNCONTROLLABLE character. That in essence is Mr. Blobby.

Great video, thank you for taking the time to put it together, very well-organized ^^ You know, for better of for worse, you've gotta hand it to Noel Edmonds for continuously getting back up and trying again even after he goes down in flames. I'm from the US, back when I was in high school in the mid-90s I went to the UK with my British literature class during our spring break. This was when I had first heard of Mister Blobby, when someone in our group bought an inflatable version of him, to this day I have a photo of it XD Naturally at the time there was nothing like youtube and so I hadn't had a chance to actually see Blobby in action or really find out what it was all about, but every English person I spoke to over the years knew what he was (and would usually respond to a mention of him with "Oh, God..." XD ) With your video finally I got an in-depth documentary, so thank you for filling me in after all those years, haha!

The late late breakfast show is remembered for several accidents during its regular "Give it a Whirl" stunt slot; in particular the death of Michael Lush. The show was cancelled by the BBC on 15 November 1986, following the death of Lush two days earlier. While rehearsing a bungee jump to be performed live on the show, Michael Lush plunged 120 feet (37 m) to his death when his rope came loose. Noel Edmonds quit the show immediately afterwards.

Good times They never fell, just moved on.

On the DVDs for the old Doctor Who season-long story arc "Trial of a Timelord", one of the extras is a series of trailers for the show and for the BBC's Saturday night lineup for the time (late 1986), as well as continuity announcements. One of which is the announcement of the cancellation of the Late Late Breakfast Show following the fatal stunt, which threw me for a loop to the point that I had to go and look it up. There's something faintly unbelievable about that whole era of TV, and while Mr. Blobby was a bit after that there's still a certain "programming from a Cyberpunk dystopia" vibe.
