As a DK fan just like you, your recent Donkey Kong videos have resonated with me and brought back a lot of nostalgia. And I've been playing all the DKC games as of recent on my Switch

It's sad that a lot of Nintendo's biggest franchises have rises, falls and a lot of hiatuses. DK can't even escape this despite being one of the reasons Nintendo ended up succeeding during a dark time is because of him and Mario. Sad most of Miyamoto's franchises had this happen besides DK, Star Fox and F-Zero come to mind.

Donkey Kong is such a powerhouse he just keeps falling and rising and falling and rising. Such an interesting story. Yeah growing up in the 90s was a great time to be a donkey Kong fan when the Donkey Kong country games and the donkey Kong Land games came out.

Nice to see someone specify that Mario used to be JUMPMAN. I can't stand it when people get that wrong. It's literally in the original manuals for the DK machines! Excellent coverage of the DK legacy. I didn't realize DK and Cranky Kong were the same figure! IIRC, there's a couple games where DK and Cranky are featured together (usually in cutscenes). Great work!

I can't imagine the Donkey Kong theme park land is not just going to be followed by a DKC Returns Remaster. They have to be making a new game. The marketing is on the walls.

I agree but they aren't off to a good start. I would imagine that are doing this remaster of Returns to see how it sells and if the interest for DK is still there. Bad marketing idea. Many will not buy the game. Not because they aren't interested, but because the same game has already been released twice. This might give Nintendo a false idea that the next new DK won't sell well, and may hold off even longer in doing one.

I wasn't jazzed about DK losing to both Mario and Bowser in the SMB Movie, but I understand it was necessary for the plot. And the movie was at least somewhat respectful of DK, he wasn't portrayed as just some braindead dumb guy, he actually had some snappy one liners. And there's a very clear direction they could go with a Donkey Kong Country movie. DK himself is already a popular celebrity among his people, but if K. Rool and the Kremling Krew stole the Kongs' greatest treasure: the Golden Banana Hoard, DK would be disgraced and be banished by King Cranky for failing to fulfill his responsibility, and couldn't return without the Golden Banana Hoard. Diddy would naturally tag along as the only Kong who still Hero Worships DK, and go on an arc of his own discovering he can be a hero in his own right and doesn't need to compare himself to DK

It's ironic how the supposed "side character" rose to fame and outshined the main character, Donkey Kong and became the face of Nintendo. I find it funny how he used to be known as just Jump Man and then when he got popular the devs were like, "Okay, we need a name for this plumber."

I just love this franchise so much 🥰 I think that most of fans, if not all of them, want a new trilogy with all the KREMLINS back again 🌸 That would be the cherry on top 😎👍 I mean, if King K. Rool finally made it to be in Smash... HE MUST BE IN THE 3RD GAME OF THE RETURN SERIES 🥰

I heard that Donkey Kong isn't getting a game lately because Retro Studios is working on developing Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

That's probably part of it, but also Tropical Freeze underperformed, so whatever ideas Retro might have had for a 3rd DKC title had to be put on ice.

​​​​@@jarerarebear1765Tropical Freeze underperformed on the Wii U because the Wii U itself didn't do well. It had nothing to do with the game. The game itself received very high review scores. Tropical Freeze sold much better on the Switch. In the first year or so after release, Tropical Freeze was in the top 10 best selling switch games. Now it's around #30.

Having Microsoft purchase Rareware is how we didn't get any proper successors to Donkey Kong, especially when the upcoming Donkey Kong Racing never made its way to the public. Happy New Year.
