Feels bad for the new generation who will never get to experience the excitement of playing new flash games. Amazed with how much stuff the community preserved. Truly a never-ending goldmine for old flash games player like me. Flash made my childhood and the community is helping me reliving it. Thank you.

I hope they are getting the same enjoyment through quality browser games releasing on a regular basis! It's a lot different than the way things were shared and consistently went viral in the Flash days. But the pool of teenage talent out there making games is probably larger than ever!

That's true! :] as 2 left thumbs say, there are a lot of good games releasing, and to this day i remember coming back from school to play raze 2 in my computer, gold days indeed

I used to play this flash game in middle school called 1066, it was about Hardrada fail invasion of England and the Norman conquest. Maybe a decade or longer later, all my friends are telling me to watch Vikings and I start talking about the last king of the vikings, recount the The Battle of Stamford Bridge perfectly, friends were just dumbfounded. Games can be incredibly powerful teaching tools, total war is largely why i did a second degree in archaeology.

I actually didn't know 1066 myself! I just looked it up, and it looks SOO cool!! Thanks for introducing me to a new game :) And thanks for sharing!

7:43 in the mid 2010s, Kongregate also became infested with Idle games taking over the site. And by the time it healed from that, Flash was at death's door anyway.

I remember being obsessed with these point and click games made by carmel studios. I think I found it in 2015-16 when I was 4 or 5 years old. I still love those games to this day but it feels like no one has ever heard of them. I also have been playing papa louie and riddle school for as long as I can remember

Pretty incredible that a prolific tool like Flash has still yet to be matched by any alternatives today.

Flash has been a huge part of my life, and you having to explain Flash vernacular really hit home for me that that era is officially dead.

I'm always happy when Flash fans show up for my big Flash retrospective and history videos. But I realized that familiarity and entry point to that world has shriveled up. The more I can do to make young gamers aware of these gems, the happier I'll be!

One way I've been keeping an eye on Ruffle's progress is actually through Club Penguin Private Servers. Certain servers like Imagined have added experimental support for Ruffle, and over time, I've seen different parts get fixed. It still has a while to go before being perfect, but it's getting there.

Club Penguin acting as a measure of Ruffle's progress isn't something I expected, but that's great to hear!

Cannot thank enough all the people that contribute to not just archiving games or animations, but archives in general. The amount of content we could've lost if it wasn't for them was insane to even start with. The backbone of preservation essentially, they're not given enough flowers for the work given there. As for Flash? It was a good run. Sucks to see those sites once so full of personality feel now extremely corporatized and boring, most of the games are pretty much the mobile games put to PC in hopes that kids would still play them. Flashpoint Archive did a fantastic job with the preservation of the Flash games and animations, regularly updated too, feels like my childhood got revived once more. Godspeed, Flash Player. You weren't in any way perfect (hell, fuck Adobe in general nowadays), but you were loved and cherished by the same generation that fights to keep your memory alive.

I feel like Newgrounds, Flashpoint, Ruffle and The Internet Archive are the Mount Rushmore of Flash game preservation. We would have lost SO much video game and internet history without them!

This was a lovely trip down memory lane! I will always think that Flash was a great way to make games quickly, and I feel super lucky to have been a kid when Flash games were popular.

I remember when I was much smaller, Amateur Surgeon was my all time favorite game. I used to binge play it and always got stuck on certain levels lol. Literally one of the most unique games of all time, with it's humor, art style, and overall function of the game. To me it's always been a very underrated game. No one really talks about it now, which is unfortunate.

This is a very interesting video, and it opened my mind to what was going on with Flash and Flash games, as opposed to just Flash animations! :) (As someone who uploads cartoons on KZbin & Newgrounds using Adobe Animate, it's very cool for me to hear the history behind Flash creations! Great videos!)

Flash games hold such a dear place in my heart. It's always so nice to see everybody's memories about them! Are you planning on making more videos on flash games in the near future? I'm excited about the upcoming Vid about Epic Battle Fantasy series you talked about a while back!

I really miss these flash games. I had soo many favs and also some games made in Java, for example one made by Jagex called Vertigo about a little dude painting blue squares purple while flying through deep space. When Java made some kind of large securtity update these games also stopped working. We now have top of the line game engines like Unity Unreal and Godot avaible to the general public but noone are making these types of web based games any more. Godot for example I think would be a perfect game engine for recreating many of these games.

Was Battlefield Heroes a Flash game? I played that in 2009 and 2010 and really liked it (but never spent a dime on it). It played in a browser. My other experience with Flash games was in the 2004 to 2006 timeframe where I would play little games to pass the time at work. Good memories from small games. Thanks for the vid!

I do not understand why there was no real replacement that filled the voice and went mainstream. Everyone decided that the bulk of the internet needed to be boring and stale, apparently.
