Great video man. I think there are also socio-cultural factors at play. Especially coming out of the pandemic, a lot of young people / Gen Z's seem to have taken a more casual and lax approach to life -- wanting to maximise pleasure and fun. I think this results in these kinds of sounds becoming popular, particularly beachy groups like Dune Rats and Skeggs who just play fun music that as you described are more about chilling out, smoking, drinking and surfing, than writing about anything extremely deep.

Can't understate how massive the Gizz influence is

Surely the film clip of “Red Light Green Light” played a factor in its popularity.

Love your content mate. Can’t forget about King Gizz’s early albums way back in 2011 - 2012. They’ve had so many different era’s it’s hard to keep up but their sound was very strictly garagey back then and there was a few of their songs on high rotation on triple J - Bloody Ripper for example.

Stu and cook where in a band called revolver sun or something like that and they did a song in that band that ended up in the gizz verse too around the early years of gizz I think on the second album they put out.

It's crying and sounds the same as the gizz version so cool.

Brisbane really did punch above its weight when it comes to this genre. DZ and Dune Rats for sure, but also bands like Velociraptor (which has both original DZ members in it), smaller ones bands like Yellowcatredcat, The Go Violets, and a bunch of Jeremy Neales singles. 2014 was by far the best Bigsound Festival.

idk but i think Frankstons rock scence is nuts. I dont know excatly where these bands from but motherfuckers like speed mullet, gnome, stimpies, morag and these type of bands really push aussie scene in a good but diffrent direction
