Sips is telling correct advice though. Smith is twisting things to get people to accept deals, and half the time people fall for it instead of doing the math. Luckily sips comes in with reason though so Ross and trott don't fall for it.

Sips is a great foil for Smith. Without him Smith would've probably scooped up properties for cheap from Ross and Trott, but they've wised up to the fact it's 'better' to have property than money. Better for Trott to just keep the mortgaged greens because they aren't hurting him and he has the opportunity to un-mortgage them later if he wishes. Swapping for the red would've been a short term gain but would also mean Smith is back in the game. Unless something drastic happens Smith is done for because he has no way of generating money.

The potential of 2 opponents losing money is more important to somebody who has money, than him losing a bit of it. Monopoly isn't about becoming rich, it's about making everybody else poor.

@@RupeeRhod This would be true if smith had a way of generating income. Smith only has so much money because he hasn't bought shit. Ross having railroads and light blues, doesn't matter how much money smith has, he will be dead as it will be ross getting all the money, not smith.

Blair Snurtburgler In a case Trott and Sips are mortgaging properties to pay rent to Ross, Ross will have money to compete at auction when someone goes bankrupt. The best Smith can do is win cheap auctions when he lands on unsold properties or his opponents foolishly choose to put something on auction. Even with his opponents bleeding themselves by overpaying every auction, Smith is still in a vulnerable position, particularly as houses and monopolies form up around him. Even if Smith believes it is good for him, my threat need not be credible. It's speculation that he would not want it. Most likely one of the three players who bought properties is going to get paid off, either draining Smith of his savings or causing one of the other two to mortgage half their stuff. Smith is up the creek without a paddle either way, and I agree the deal is not attractive (it's a threat after all), but it would be funny. Maybe if a player owes money they might trade a property to Smith instead of mortgaging it, but I think Smith is going to end up paying close to the real value of the property at least to make that deal. I know you're defending his strat, but I'm not really sure how it would ever work.

I love watching him struggle, after watching the other games where he would make people believe that his 'deals' were fair by shouting at them about how they were good and ross and trott would just hand him things for barely any money. Seeing Trott being uncertain about if he should swap 1 red for 3 greens when he would get virtually nothing from having the red set with his current amount of money when Smith would have everything to gain was a painful few seconds to watch.

Smith strat is legit, but he got caught out a couple times spending more than he liked to trying to dumb shit. The problem is we probably got past the point of no return for his strat to work. Also if smith immediately had gotten greens and unmortgaged them he would have fucked himself. If you truly think Smith's strat is bad you've never played this version of the game. All other players typically end up ripping each other off and then you sit back and buy shit for pennies.

He didnt have enough money to build on the reds and smith in his current position is slowly running out of options, in a few more times round the board smith is gunna get desperate and that extra red will be much easier for trott to get his hands on and Smith wont have any money to do anything about it

Sometimes to get the ball rolling, you just gotta make it happen. That deal Ross tried to make with Sips? The two spots for the rail station? I'd take that trade. Yeah it's a little risky, because he now has all stations, but now I've got a bit more bargaining power, and might be able to trade some of what I got to another for something else I want. At this point Sips has become Trott's voice of reason. I mean jesus, he is saving dicks big time out on that board. Thank fuck he didn't hand over those greens almost for free, and without any potential gain at this point. Seems like Smiffy has adopted a new strategy, to talk others into bad deals :P Shame about Trott though. Two other players got a set really fast, so now he has lost his major advantage (Yes, he does still have the oranges, but one visit on the browns or blues and he is probably out), however it does make the game super interesting imo. Say if Trott were to get some unlucky rolls and end up having to sell everything, maybe Smiffy could talk him into selling him everything, instead of him just declaring bankruptcy, assuming he can maintain his high money pool a little while longer?

Maybe not a high % play, but sitting on your hands like Smiffy is the worst thing you can do. Also to OP, in monopoly you should almost always dump every penny into houses. Maybe save enough to absorb the biggest hit on the board if you have a commanding lead.

Fluffy Squirrel I think auto-auction only works if you add the skip option. The person who lands on it needs to get some sort of benefit from being the one to land on it. If it’s the normal way, you get the benefit of buying it straight up without an auction. With this rule set, you get the benefit of being able to skip auctions that you don’t have the money to participate in.
