Was it necessary to mention ‘as a tax payer’? Indian armed forces are not living on ur taxes. First of all they themselves pay taxes and your own tax is used for growing ur own economy not defence. So armed forces too have contribution in ur growth as they too pay taxes.

Do a research about aviation R&D and implementation, this is not a new thing. Even advanced fighter jet like f35 took like 20 years in making with all the technology and history of US fighter jet making. It was first flew in 2000 and fully operational from 2015 to 2020. (edit : I am not an indian, just admiring the engineering effort)

Developing a weapon is not a simple as making Halwa. It take time, efforts, funds, patience.
@AbhishekSanyalTGV Жыл бұрын
@@swapnilp5774 I also know that weapons are not halwa. I in fact couldn't care less about halwa. But all I am saying is - India's industrial capabilities given its population and size, are far from perfect. Add bureaucracy to the mix. The pace is borderline pathetic.
@swapnilp5774 Жыл бұрын
@@AbhishekSanyalTGV I agree. But you also should agree to the fact that we were under foreign occupation just 76 yrs ago. Neither we amassed wealth by looting other countries, nor we were profiteers of world wars. And we had such dire issues like food security, basic healthcare, basic infra and so on to be addressed immediately. So, I request you, before making any comparison with any other country, please understand that. Also, we are one of the only four truly sovereign nations, which are USA, Russia, China and India. No other country is truly sovereign. Think over this... So, we must get self reliant in every strategic field. We can't rely on any other country, as much as possible. That's India's vision. And that's why our focus till now had been on food security, healthcare, education, strategic sectors like nuclear and space tech, basic infra etc. Weapon manufacturing came later because till 1991, USSR used to be our prime reliable supplier. Also, France, Israel and UK to some extent helped us. Though, our Ballistic missile development programme (IGMDP), missile defence programme, nuclear submarine programme, Indigenous fighter jet programme and many other weapons programmes ran simultaneously, since Indira ji's govt. Nuclear programme and Space programme was active since our independence. Just look at our ballistic missiles or satellite launch vehicles. Our efforts started bearing fruits since 80s. Lack of resources, financial resources etc, were surely obstacles. But our nation overcame it in a brilliant way. It takes time to design building blocks and core tech. After that it's relatively easier. Western countries had colonial wealth. USA was the biggest war profiteer of two world wars, China copied everything and so on. So don't compare. And now, since we are doing well in terms of earlier priorities, we can focus on weapons manufacture and other sectors in which we are relying on others. So before making any insensitive conclusions about our nation's path, I urge you to study in depth about our priorities at given time and reasons behind those. It's not as simple as it looks.
@fun3721 Жыл бұрын
When USA denied us GPS, we sent satellites into space and built NAVIC. Necessicity is the mother of all inventions. So long as India keeps buying foreign made products, we will not make anything for ourselves. We are still buying engines. We need to prioritize kaveri engines or a new design for that matter. We need to build engines for ships, frigates, destroyers as well. We need to design our own guns instead of buying Sig from USA or AK 47 from Russia.

About 90 percent of the Indian Army’s equipment comes from Russia, while the Indian Navy’s share of Russian equipment is, in contrast, estimated at 40 percent. Around 70 percent of the equipment of the India Air Force (IAF) is of Russian origin. When it comes to anti-tank and air defence systems in the army, a large portion is constituted by the likes of the Konkurs anti-tank-guided missile (ATGM), Kornet ATGM, OSA surface-to-air missile (SAM), Pechora SAM, Strela SAM and the Igla SAM. Besides, Smerch and Grad, the multiple rocket launcher systems in use with the Indian Army, are Russian. Moreover, despite the Indian names of surface ships, the Rajput-class destroyers, Talwar-class frigates, and Veer-class missile corvettes are all Russian off-the-shelf sales. As for firepower, India also operates a whole series of made-in-Russia weapons, including the Kh-35 (a turbojet subsonic missile) and P-20 anti-ship missiles, Klub anti-ship/land attack missiles and APR-3E torpedo. This is apart from the INS Vikramaditya, which served in the Soviet Navy before it was decommissioned and bought by the Indian Navy in 2004. Regarding submarines, the eight Kilo-class submarines acquired from Russia form the bulk of India’s fleet. And New Delhi also remains intent on the lease of a third Russian nuclear-powered attack submarine (SSN), Chakra III. The Sukhoi Su-30 MKI fighters constitute about 14 of the IAF’s 30 squadrons. There are also MiG-29UPG and MiG-21 fighters, IL-78 tankers, as well as two IL-76 aircraft that have been converted to carry airborne warning and control systems that India has bought from Israel. There are also political implications: it will be harder for Russia to provide support or even neutrality to India in the event of a China-India clash given Moscow’s growing economic and political dependence on Beijing.” Adding to the complexity is the fact that India has several essential defence imports from Ukraine, including upgrades for the AN-32, R-27 air-to-air-missiles and propulsion systems for frigates, which are facing disruption because Kyiv needs it for self-defence. That the Ukraine war has hastened India’s defence indigenisation push is beyond doubt. In March this year, India issued a list of 107 subsystems that are to be banned from import and indigenised over the next six years. Several of the items on the list are meant for T-90 and T 72 tanks, warships, helicopters, infantry combat vehicles, missiles, ammunition and radars, among others, all of which are procured from either Russia or Ukraine.
