Holy sh@t this channel is awesome. Every now and then I stumble upon great content on KZbin but this channel is a goldmine. Thanks so much for sharing your ideas and knowledge, it is inspiring. I’m getting back into AD&D and Greyhawk now. I’ve never played 5e but it’s cool to see that they are now bringing Greyhawk into the new DM’s guide as a campaign guide. I wonder if they will start releasing more Greyhawk material. Thanks again !

I hate to correct you, but Prince Thrommel is not found dead in ToEE, he is in stasis ( under an illusion spell to make him look like a vampire) and can be rescued.

Hey everyone! Despite me mispronouncing IUZ (forgive my ignorance I missed Gary's clarification in the 80s) Lots of folks and old school AD&D players enjoyed this video. Tell me what you'd love to see and I'll make it a goal for this summer! -More History? -Original Adventures? -Break down of the Temple of Elemental Evil (It's huge that could be 20 hours of videos) -Solo play? -You suggestion goes here!

Thanks Fred. Next up is the revised village map and the DM's perspective on designing the "occupation." I'm currently leaning towards a Vichy France/WW II kind of vibe where Iuz's "evil men" run the place, but keep it functioning with an iron fist. That way the players can do more covert actions, side with "the Old Religion" working as a resistance, and so on, rather than bumble down mainstreet unmolested and order beers at the Inn. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_military_administration_in_occupied_France_during_World_War_II

Thanks for the compliment. I never finished this little side venture. It deserves some energy again one day. Even so, the World of Greyhawk is my all time favorite campaign location. I could run G1-D3 for the rest of my life. Check Anna B. Meyer's work for maps. It's amazing! www.patreon.com/annabmeyer www.annabmeyer.com/576cy-download/

Great stuff. Just got my nostalgia purchase in the mail the other day: DMG with the efreet cover. PHB on its way. Looking forward to going through your vids. Well done! I took a 25 year hiatus from RPG, and recently got back into it. 5E has a lot to recommend it (streamlined mechanics, background section of PHB, etc.), but I find it extremely death averse and PCs essentially become superheroes and consequences seem to be somewhat light (self healing, full health with long rests, etc.)! I've been searching through OSR products which I've really enjoyed reading (Old-School-Essentials is my favourite for this with their Advanced supplement), but I stumbled across one of your videos on suprise/initiative in AD&D and loved it. This is great content. Keep it up!

Your not the only old kid in the house, Dan. I did a 38 year break before I got the itch to finally learn about Greyhawk, now that all these new fangled webby things make it so easy. Thought I'd try my hand at building a town and then writing an adventure. Then the pandemic came and it was a great refuge in my free time. I agree with you about how death averse D&D has become. I'm not surprise or all that bothered because if I ever run a game again, I'll likely use the basic fantasy RPG rules. You gain +1 hit point for a rest in the wild. You gain +2 hit points for rest & recuperation in town where there may be soap, clean water, and cleaner clothing. A party can get beat up a few times pretty good and recover with a couple of cure light wounds and/or healing potions and a successful night's rest. That should be enough time for a low level party to get some exploring done and then beat it back to civilization. After a week or so of roughing it and taking damage, most people world be pretty frayed at the edges. We are not talking about high level rangers and druids here or Army Rangers or Navy Seals. Back in the day, we might make up a rule about fatigue, but more likely the PCs would figure that out themselves, perhaps with a nudge or two from the DM. If reason didn't prevail, a bigger bad threat would likely come sooner than later. Death of PCs were a real possibility. Regardless, good luck with your triumphant return to gaming.

@@jamesnell1999 Basic Fantasy is a great rule set. I also highly recommend Old School Essentials (a really nice clean version of Basic Expert, and they have an advanced option as well which gives you AD&D options but without the Gygaxian complications -though there are plenty who enjoy that, myself included). If you like AD&D, OSRIC is the go to for 1e, but I recommend For Gold and Glory which is 2e. Gaming is going well. I run 3 campaigns (2 are both up to the 47th session, and the other I have just begun), and currently play in 1. I'm brushing up some drafting of a rather large document for publication on DriveThruRPG which might take a bit of work, but summer holidays are on the horizon, so... Enjoy the game!

I'm checking out 5e...and it's sucking huge. I want a Unicorn Vampire Angel Centaur Elf that is a Wizard Barbarian Rogue with Psionics with an Aristocratic backstory so I can buy all my Magic Items through Forgotten Amazon. There is nothing 'special' because its all 'special'...boring.

If you want really scary game play, try Classic Traveller. Every single year I try multiple games and always come back to the core purity of AD&D and Classic Traveller. The designers (TSR and GDW) built their games on on imagination, not publishing, concept art, and hardback printing in China. kzbin.info/aero/PL4eDfZIBxlUaHXVZ-2le-TQV78RxHKkOX www.drivethrurpg.com/product/80199/Guide-To-Classic-Traveller

This is something more people should do IMO. Convert the old classic AD&D modules to your favorite system. Pathfinder 2e, 5E, 3.5 etc.

So, what he referred to as the Wilds is actually the Wild Coast. It's not a country, but it has a few free cities. Directly under it is the mountain region known as The Pomarj, where orcs, goblins and other evil humanoids invaded (go look up the Hateful Wars) and conquered, making it theirs. Forces of the Pomarj are kinda trapped due to the wariness of Ulek and, to a lesser extent, Celene... but they often raid into the Wild Coast. The Pomarj is where the Classic DM's reference to where evil is coming from originates.

Emridy's Meadow was just north of Hommlet.
@russellharrell27475 ай бұрын
Yeah, he is misinterpreting the bend of the river to mean that the armies met on the north side but the met on the south bank, with the hood guys circling around and trapping the horde from the west, south and East and against the river to the north.

Ahh, the old folio version vs. the first boxed set. Fun times > Deities & Demigods with Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser Ah, I see you're a man of culture as well Do you have the one with the Cthulhu & Melnibone mythos? I had that one, then someone stole it from me after they had to stop publishing that version, and then I found a new copy a couple years later in a corner of a bookstore and couldn't believe my find and got it again at list price. Still have that one.

@Porphyrogenitus14 жыл бұрын
@@Classic_DM F Sorry to hear that. I still have almost all of mine (but not all), but for better or worse I tend to resort to pdfs now just because it's a lot easier to locate a pdf than to go through all the stuff. I suppose I could get back to better organizing my collection, as I once had it, but I move too much lately so even as is lots of things stay in boxes. Rip.
