The Legend Killer, Randy Orton, one of my favorite wrestlers. The guy was just spectacular, sure he had his problems outside the ring but inside, he was a gifted athlete. In this video, I cover the Legend Killer Randy Orton's rise to the top of WWE. If you enjoyed this video then make sure you like, share and subscribe!

The reason why this video was so long is because I wanted to capture the essence of Orton's Legend Killer character. I thought Orton could've been the face of WWE, but due to his antics and that face turn, they rebuilt him. I loved the Legend Killer run and for me, his standout moments were when he faced Foley at Backlash and his Cell match against Taker at Armageddon. What did you think of Orton's Legend Killer Run?

Yij Lee Vince used Foley every year he was there to put over the top stars in a big way to elevate them either to the top or to cement them on top. Foley did it with Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker in 1996, Steve Austin in 1998, The Rock in 1999, Triple H in 2000, Orton in 2004 and Edge in 2006 but WCW also did it with Sting in 1991-1992 and Vader in 1993. Foley is alongside Ric Flair as being the greatest at putting people truly over and elevating them to a higher level.

While he's often been stale in the last decade, I'll always be a Randy Orton fan for his Legend Killer period. What a great start to a career. You could always tell they knew he was going to be a star the way they used him. Sure, the face run was a flop and seemed to be stuck in the doghouse in mid 2006, but he was far from doing bad or being jobbed out even during those times. Losing to Triple H after just one month as champion and the ridiculous loss to Hogan at SummerSlam were the only two real bummers, but they never sacrificed his character and credibility entirely. And the rest? His debut on SmackDown, his run in evolution as the IC champ, his legend killer build, having one of the best feuds of all time with The Undertaker, the Rated RKO tag team...so many iconic moments and feuds, not gonna lie, if I could live any wrestlers career myself, I'd probably pick Orton's just for those first 5 years. Even the short fling with Stacy made for an interesting, though short-lived storyline, and that's rare with love angles in pro wrestling. I'm also amazed how the RNN thing isn't a meme among wrestling fans, when I first saw it I was laughing my ass off lol. It's a shame though he never liked his theme song cause I loved it and I wish he would've stuck with it. Was never too high on the Viper gimmick so the whole change in character, including his music, look and minitron, didn't sit well with me. The Triple H feud in early 2009 rocked but otherwise it took till 2013 for me to get behind him at all again. Now with the new feud he started with Edge (who just happens to be my all time favorite), at last he's back to being possibly the most interesting guy on the show.

Mark B Agree fam the Hogan and Triple H(2004) loss was the real bummer, but it still didn't the hurt credibility, character, and status of Randy because he was still an elite star and main eventer. Orton was still a huge part of the main event scene despite those 2 losses

@markb35
@markb35 4 жыл бұрын
@@sbigbears6413 I would've disagreed had you asked me around the time of WrestleMania 25 since I thought that'd be where the feud culminated and you couldn't have the heel win a storyline like this, not after everything Randy did in the lead up. But since we continued that storyline and Orton would actually win eventually, I feel like it's been done the wrong way around. Cause that way they did indeed kill Orton's momentum at WrestleMania. They should've let him get the win at Mania and then have the 3 Stages of Hell, that didn't even need the title, go to Hunter.

I loved Orton's classic Legend Killer run. It was a major part of my childhood and what got me to become an RKO head. His oozing charisma, swag, larger than life personality and amazing mic and in-ring skills helped Randy to be an top guy, top heel, and main eventer. Most of his greatest matches came from the Legend Killer run. There will be no other Legend Killer. Randy was the only guy fit that persona and he played that role to perfection.

My biggest issue with Orton’s Legend Killer run from 2003-2007, was that he always lost the matches that counted. He got the title in 2004-lost it to HHH, went to smackdown to feud with Taker- got over but still ultimately lost the HIAC, Went to Wrestlemania with Mysterio and Angle- lost the match, Fought Hogan at Summerslam- lost the match, Went back to Raw to form Rated RKO- got over again but then lost to Edge before Edge went to smackdown with the MITB. It was like his character was always involved in big storylines, but never actually won in a dominant way

His rivalry with Mick Foley and being in Evolution made him an top star while his memorable WHC title win over Chris Benoit made him an massive main eventer. He became one of WWE's biggest stars(still is ) as Legend Killer. It was that incredible mic skills and larger than life personality that made Randy so popular. It's hard to believe that Randy Orton has been in the company for 18 years and he's done so much. He's gone from the being young prodigy to one of the biggest and most successful wrestlers of all time. He's faced all of the big names, competed in lots of big matches and has had some classic feuds. In my opinion, his best work as a heel was his legend killer gimmick during his run with Evolution and his post Evolution career where he was very cocky but incredibly entertaining. He developed an excellent resume in taking out legends and became one of the masters of drawing heat from the fans. My two Randy Orton favourite feuds of all time were his history making program with Mick Foley where he was put on the map as a serious main event performer and the other one was was with The Undertaker where he was re established as a force to be reckoned with.

Warhawkbeyond2040 That classic feud with Undertaker gave Randy more credibility as an top guy and main eventer while it also made him WWE's top heel

Warhawkbeyond2040 Facts because despite the Triple H match at Unforgiven smh, Orton was still an top guy and main eventer but he wasn't fit for the babyface role. Thankfully his rivalry with Undertaker made him an top heel again

@@mbeas9612 I think we can all agree that Randy Orton is more natural as a heel than a babyface and his rivalry with Undertaker gave him more credibility in that role and put him back on the map in a big way

Warhawkbeyond2040 Exactly like in 2005, Orton was the top heel on Smackdown, had the feud of the year with Undertaker and became an bigger main eventer.

I feel that Randy is bringing a little bit of his Legend Killer gimmick out with his current feud with Edge. Maybe a mixture of the Viper and Legend Killer. His loss to HHH on his first title run wasn't surprising but when he lost to Hogan that set me off. Like you said Hogan didn't need that win but typical Hogan style his ego wouldn't let Orton beat him.
@mbeas9612
@mbeas9612 4 жыл бұрын
Shane Spiess Exactly Hogan didn't need that win. Randy was in his prime as an major star and main eventer. It was bad enough he didn't put HBK over at last Summerslam, but he could had at least put Orton over smh. plus it's great to see Randy bring back his Legend Killer persona and adding it up with Viper to his classic feud with Edge. Now Orton is easily the # 1 top heel in WWE
