I think it’s the utility that makes it so popular and I think it’s here to stay. People want to be comfortable and the fabrics developed for workout wear are so comfortable and breathable and people have stuff to do. Also theres plenty instances of a more formal athletic scene with boating frat boys, Ralph Lauren old money tennis girlies, and riding boots being super popular is the mid 2010s. Even golf tees are accepted as semi formal and a sport is in the name lol. I think people think that the new era of athleisure is lazy because it’s inspired by and suited for the masses and so rich people sports and their aesthetic is inspiration and almost a flex.

I think it’s interesting indeed that sportswear from sports associated with money are used as semi-formal clothes. There are examples in the history though when it was not the case. For example, Fred Perry polo shirts were adopted by skinheads (a subculture that emerged from the working class) in the 1960s. Thank you for watching 😍
