The opening sequence of tales from the darkside gave me the creeps as a kid and set the perfect mood. It is iconic. I also loved Friday the 13th the series and consider it to be sort of a prototype for the xfiles in that it centered around the adventures of a cast of main characters that you actually cared about.

Let me tell you, as a kid/teen who didn't have cable until the last year of the decade, horror anthologies played in our house every week. My favorites were Tales from the Darkside, Tales from the Crypt (when I could catch it), Freddy's Nightmares, and thanks for including it, Monsters. They offer good thrills and chills that stuck with me. Thanks again for this series.

Something about the music intro gave me this totally creeped out feeling, and to this day, I don't know why. I could watch the show, but I would bury my head and cover my ears when I heard that intro come on. It's nice to know that it wasn't just me who felt that way back then. Makes me wonder why it had that effect on so many people in the first place.

One thing I learned in later years, and have come to respect as a fan of the original, was how the 80's Twilight Zone series had the showrunners right a 25 year wrong done to a masterful writer. Turns out, A GAME OF POOL, a great episode featuring Jack Klugman and Johnathan Winters, had its ending altered. Much to the chagrin of George Clayton Johnson, who wrote the teleplay for A GAME OF POOL. SPOILERS: the early 60's original saw Jessie beat Fats Brown, only to find himself in the same position in his own afterlife. Having his soul go back down to Earth whenever some youngster wished to prove his prowess at the pool hall. In the 80's revival, Jessie lost the game to Fats. The ingenious twist being that despite losing to Fats, he got to stay alive. Living with the shame of losing to a legend. This was the ending Johnson originally penned. Never found out why they went with the ending they did for the 60's version. Just appreciated that the showrunners of the revival filmed the original ending for the remake...❤

We need another period like this, where horror anthologies rule the airwaves!! I remember several of these. The Amazing Stories episode discussed on here, go to the head of the class, i remember seeing that when i was only 3 years old!! It's one of my earliest memories, & i just remember it scaring the crap outta me!! I also remember the '85 Twilight Zone reboot, & the Hitchcock presents reboot. I only saw the first season of the Hitchcock presents reboot, that aired on one of the major networks, i forget which one. At the time, i thought that the opening retro footage of Hitchcock himself, was current footage, but i remember my mom always reassuring me that he was already dead. I never knew of the existence of Freddy's Nightmares or Monsters, until i discovered them on Chiller, in the late 2000s. I definitely remember Tales From the Crypt in its original run. Sadly, i also missed out on Bradbury's Theater, in its original run, & only remember seeing one episode, in the '90s, Mars is Heaven. So when i stumbled upon the entire series, at Walmart, i grabbed it, oyt of curiousity, & ended up loving the series. I now own RBT, Amazing Stories, & Tales From the Darkside, all on home video! I've been trying to get my hands on Freddy's Nightmares, as well.

Mad props for giving "The hitchhiker" sometime👌 there was one show I think it was the early 90s or 80s and I think it was either on Showtime, or Cinemax. I think it was called "Phantasms" the intro was a shot of a purple colored storm clouds and they quoted Edgar Allan Poe with the "dream within a dream" line. I had one episode on tape and I think it had Megan Tilly, or her sister playing a vampire who befriends a young daughter of a well-to-do aristocrat plantation or something. I also recommend the early-‘70s British movie adaptations of Tales From the Crypt. The first one featured Ralph Richardson, one of the biggest Shakespearean stage actors of his era, as the Crypt Keeper! Tales From the Crypt is the GOAT of Tv anthology horror, I really dug Tales From the Darkside too but it’s low budget was evident in its later seasons. Freddy’s Nightmares might be the most frustrating anthology series ever, cause it wouldn’t have taken much to make it good. The problems with the episodes were things often didn’t make sense.
