To get to the tunnel entrance or top of it, castle style turrets on it, you go to the bowls club, it's behind there. Last I heard years ago was it was being used as a mushroom farm I think may be able to ask whichever factory is infront of that end if you wanted to see it from ground level

Another very enjoyable video .I've looked at a good few of your videos about the Yorkshire Branchlines over the last few days and enjoyed them all .Although I've been interested in the LYR for many years it is only since watching your videos that I've come to realise how many of these branchlines were in rock sided cuttings, on embankments, and some of the viaducts are quite spectacular ( like Lockwood ) . I didn't fully appreciate the terrain the navvies had to work through .I think you could say they managed to put railways in places where railways were never meant to go. I have a much clearer understanding now .Thank you very much !

Good stuff. Very brave - in that footwear! Often strikes me as ideal for converting into a really quiet, secluded cycleway, especially as the walkable sections are nearly always muddy or waterlogged. Owing to the double track formation, there is plenty of room to provide facilities also for pedestrians (maybe even equestrians, too). As is so often the case with railway branch lines, none of the Rishworth branch stations were particularly well sited for the communities they purported to serve. Ripponden & Barkisland (@ School Close) probably the least useful! As soon as the more convenient trams arrived, using the Ryburn valley's main road, the railway's days were numbered. In later years, one of the branch's two lines (I can't recall if it was the up or the down) was used for storing surplus-to-requirements rolling stock. Pretty sure the failing condition of Rishworth station's rickety access bridge contributed to its early demise.

I took a picture from above Rishworth School looking down the valley in about 1962 -63. You can clearly see a building, possibly a shed of some sort at the end of the line. I think the tracks had already been taken up.

Fabulous video, very interesting. I previously thought the railway ended at Ripponden.

You would enjoy the book "The Blackpool High Flyer" by Andrew Martin set in Halifax around 1900. The drivers at Sowerby Bridge sheds consider it a drag being put on this line and can't wait to get back out on the main line.

Just after leaving Scar Head Tunnel towards Triangle, I believe there was also a halt called Watsons Crossing which would've served local mills. Again, nothing remaining there, but a very interesting branch line. Amazing to see the remains of the platforms at Rishworth. Great video!

Where the housing is at Ripponden is where the station was. By the way it’s Bark-is-land rather than Bark-island. It’s a long stiff walk from Ripponden. The line to Ripponden remained open for goods until the 60s, while the final section to Rishworth was a much earlier closure. The reason the line is so wide and heavily engineered is that it was planned to be a double track main line to Manchester, leaving the existing route via Rochdale as for local traffic. The line would have tunnelled from Rishworth would have come out at Hollingworth Lake.
