I just had a fully ablative Erbium laser performed on my face and neck. it took me months to find a" qualified" professional...I was looking for a board certified dermatologist with a fellowship in lasers. I finally found one a couple of hours from me and it was SO worth it! Honestly, I was not looking for just a board certificate dermatologist or a plastic surgeon. They are not properly trained in lasers specifically. I hope this helps. I also follow Stefanie Kappel and she was so helpful in finding the type of doctor I was looking for and she explains why plastic surgeons are not fully qualified.

Also, I recommend only having it done by the board certified dermatologist with a fellowship in lasers....no one else...no supervising...they have to be doing it themselves. They should have done at least a thousand...no joke and request to see THEIR before and afters. You may have to pay a little more but it's your face and skin...it's worth it. :)

I had Fraxel Dual with a board-certified dermatologist. An hour before treatment they gave me ativan (lorazepam), 2 Percocets, 4 Promethazine (anti-nausea), and then applied numbing cream. The only part that bothered me was doing the forehead. I can't even imagine getting Fraxel with just numbing cream! Always, always go to a dermatologist or plastic surgeon.

The KEY to successful laser procedures is finding a Board Certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon to do the treatment. I believe that doctors who are affiliated with a university hospital are top notch. I sought treatment from a plastic surgeon affiliated with a major university in the US. I also did diligence in researching her credentials and references. I won't trust my face to just anybody! My procedure turned out well for a full face fraxel dual laser procedure. I can already see improvement after only a couple of weeks. And remember, the skin continues to remodel for six months, until it reaches maximum effect. As for using a fraxel laser on the delicate neck skin, my doctor says it is not advisable. Instead, she recommends a series of less invasive procedures such as Clear & Brilliant or other medi-spa level treatments.

I am so sorry you went through all of that - what a nightmare - so so scary. I have had one Pixel 8 RF Treatment and love the results so far. I am scheduled for my second treatment in about 3 weeks. And recommended another treatment one month after that for a total of 3 treatments and then once a year after that. I have very young looking skin for being 54 years old and just recently started noticing fine lines, larger pores, some small wrinkles around my eyes and my neck is starting to show my age - so I am looking for anything to slow down the aging of my skin. I have started a very good skin routine and now I am doing Pixel 8 which I did not find uncomfortable at all. I had numbing cream for one hour prior to my treatment and I have a very high pain tolerance. That day and night my neck was very hot and very red. The second day my face was almost back to normal skin color but my neck still looked blotchy red but no longer hot. By the third day all of the redness was gone. I was covering my skin with HA5 by Skin Medica and it is AMAZING. I am about a week out from the procedure and I can see that the fine lines are gone, my pores are already smaller and my neck looks so much better too - I was told that I would not really see results for 3 weeks so I cannot wait for the 3 week mark to get here. I am very excited about Pixel 8 and I think with the right provider and someone that is qualified and has your best interest at heart, this is an amazing treatment. I am very happy and just hate to see what you went through - it is infuriating that someone could do that to you - BUT, your skin is amazing and that is why I am here - I want to learn everything you know because your skin is flawless - thanks for sharing your experience so more people will seek out professionals when it comes to their skin - especially their face.

Hi darling. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience. You are so right. There are some amazing treatment options out there and some fantastic providers. I have actually had a couple of Pixel treatments but that was probably around 4-5yrs ago. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Pixel. So little down time and an amazing 'refresh' result. I bet the Pixel 8 is even better than what I tried. The other day I had a PicoWay for some small pigmentation marks on my face to try to keep on top of them. It is definitely a case of worse before better as the pigmented areas darken then will lighten over the next 3 weeks. I will do a VIDEO about this treatment. Thank you again for taking the time to comment and for subscribing. Enjoy the rest of your day. Sheena 🌸 x

I had it too at 27 and it really aged me...I am now 29 and have very deep nasolabial folds (is it called that?) and marionette folds and it has dryed and thinned my skin in general. I had it for large pores. My other dermatologist said he thinks it is irresponsible how fast the fraxel laser is used when there are softer options. He said he would never use it on a person under 40, because the way it reduces the pores is that it sucks them inwards in the direction of the face, because it shortens the collagen! But this can now cause me to get wrinkles earlier. And that is what happened. Warning signs for me could have been: - no checking out my skin beforehand except for a 5 second look. - no questions asked about my skin - doctor mentioned only emotional reasons why this is a great treatment (e.g. "I have it too all the time", "every person on the street that I would do the treatment to would look better afterwards"), but didn't explain what the laser does to the skin - when I told him that I'm using sunscreen daily in spring, summer and autumn said he thinks that this is overexaggerated. But I think it is common knowledge that UV-light does great damage to the skin - did the treatment in May

Without first viewing your video, thank goodness my treatment turned out well as I had good advice from my dermatologist. My derm doc does not do any comsmetic procedures, but he gave me 3 names of local anti aging clinics that he trusted. Why? Because he told me do not let a clinician of any sort touch you. He told me if anyone other than a doctor preforms this service, run for the door. Like you I did experience some pain during the procedure, in hindsight I would have not been so brave and medicated myself prior and have a friend drive me home. My skin was ugly for about 5 days. Would I do it again? Not likely, but it has only been 4 weeks, and you don't ask a mom with a newborn if she is ready for another baby so soon. I just had a follow up with the doc who did the procedure, and the only 'complication" I have is a bit of hyperpigmentation and she prescribed hydroquinone. I also advise people to watch lots of these videos before they take the plunge!

Hi Sharon. That is interesting. It is worrying that this industry is not well regulated meaning almost anyone can get their hands on these machines. I would never have a treatment such as this again either. Hyperpigmentation is not that easy to remedy. I also wouldn't use hydroquinone due to bad reports on this product. I've scheduled laser procedures for my acne scars, and I should probably be worried. Are there any red flags to look for on the day of the procedure? I think my attending dermatologist knows what he's doing. I'm just worried that I could arrive there to find out that a nurse, technician or medical student could be the person who operates the lasers. In that case, would it be better to leave before it starts? They would probably charge a cancellation fee, but that would be only a minor inconvenience if it means avoiding something that would permanently disfigured me.
@TheBeautyProtocole
@TheBeautyProtocole 2 жыл бұрын
I completely understand that you are concerned about this. There's no way I'd let a trainee use laser on me. You might find that your dermatologist comes in for the consultation and will advise the nurse which settings to use if he's not doing the laser himself. When I had my misadventure there was no dermatologist onsite (even though it was a medical practice) so the nurse was left to her own devices (and she was experienced). I now go to a dedicated Skin Specialist who ALWAYS consults prior to a treatment. If he does not do it himself he clearly advises the nurses which settings to use. The practice is so great. He helped to fix the original botched job. Good luck sweetie. Please express your concerns when you attend your appointment. Less is best xx

The good news is that I called their office again and found out that the attending dermatologist will be present during the procedure. I ask myself that question at this age. I am not in a relationship and do not want to be as I don't want to take care of a man that might have medical issues. As long as you are happy with how you look that is just perfect. There are no rules. It's very personal and its important that we do things for ourselves and not others. Sometimes people look in the mirror and don't find it reflects how they feel. Maybe age has made them look permanently tired, grumpy or sad. For 2 solid weeks the itch was unbearable. It would wake me up at night. Then it would go away but if my hands brushed against something, it would start again. I regret getting fraxel. Im 39 and got it because i had a dark spot on my cheek and some less bothersome freckles/ tiny sun spots. The provider made it sound like it would be no big deal in terms of down time. No. I looked like i had been beaten up with 2 black eyes and severe snake skin for 4-5 days. It itched and in my sleep i scratched a giant scab off my face and this left a scar. Seriously- this should have been discussed… i ended up sleeping with mittens on my hands for a week and not at their direction. 6 months later- i still have a discoloration on my cheek where i scratched in my sleep and my under eyes have permanent dark circles. Major issue as well- they numbed me with lidocaine all over my face- the nurse doing the laser applied it then said oh this might make you feel “woozy” (which it did) and then had me sign the papers for informed consent. I understand that its on me to do my homework and research prior to- and i did , or so I thought . The whole thing has been a nightmare

Hi Victoria. I’m sorry that there is no reference to the laser. It was Fraxel (Fractional laser). It can be very effective for wrinkles, discolouration etc but in the wrong hands it can cause burns and other issues. Sheena xx

I am 4 weeks out from the same procedure. The results are terrible. I have scars in the honeycomb pattern of the laser. My left under eye has permanent edema. Thai was done by a reputable plastic surgeon and nurse.

@Beyond50Skin may I ask why? I'm 53, considering getting a c02 myself
@beyond50skin
@beyond50skin 2 жыл бұрын
@@JW-bh2ud Of course! I had ablative CO2 ERbium Yag at 54 (fall 2019). For reference I am caucasian, fair, Fitz II, eczema prone skin with history of moderate sun exposure. My skin was dull with fine lines, the deepest lines over my top lip area, an ideal candidate for this procedure. The reason I would not have it done again is multifold. It was a painful recovery. I also experience pruritus (terrible itching) during recovery (not everyone does) and scratched myself by accident in my sleep (I still have a faint scar). I found out much later when I requested my medical records that my provider let his resident student do the procedure and he must have gone too deep. It took over a year for the redness to fade. I still have residual fine web-like hypo pigmentation lines over my lip and on the sides of my cheeks. A bit like a fine cobwebbing. With follow-up fraxel laser treatments and time it's fading. My dermatologist (a different one! Dr Sherene Idriss) is doing the follow up fraxel, IPL and RF microneedling procedures to help fade the residual redness under my chin (now gone) and reduce the appearence of the hypopigmentation. I certainly don't want to scare you away from having cosmetic procedures because I ultimately have a much more youthful appearance and appreciate the final outcome. But I wish I has been more prepared for the cost and the reality of the recovery and how things can and do go wrong on occasion. I sure hope my experience is helpful to you. I've also done a video on my laser journey if you care to check it out. I dont mean to promote my channel on someone else's channel but you might find it helpful and that is why we women are on YT, to help one and other. Best wishes - Cindy

The lasers are inherently damaging. I have read reviews of women who had this done by a Dr and skin was still ruined. They posted before and after.

Good Lord.... you DID dodge a bullet by not getting your face done! There really are some dodgy operators out there ( been on the receiving end myself), and I don't think it is commonly known that ACC will cover it. There is always the HDC as well.

Hi Carol....Yes I am totally thankful for my silver lining! It could have been so much worse...Oh no! You have experienced a bad treatment too? I'm so sorry to hear that. You're right about the ACC cover but that can be a battle too. It's not guaranteed. I guess the providers don't mention it because they don't want to be on the ACC's radar. Have a great day hun 🌸💖

Sorry I'm commenting as the video plays🙏 I've just finished watching it all. I am so sorry this happened to you. I'm really glad you didn't get your face done. In Australia we have so many problems with qualifications and faulty/faux advertising of skin procedures and dodgy dermatologists and plastic surgeon's. I'm glad you were able to get the damage reduced. Thanks for sharing your experience 💖💐

Hi Sylvain. Thanks for the giggle. I love that you commented as you watched the video. 😁 I guess the problem is we don’t know what we don’t know and we expect to be in good hands with qualified medical professionals. I really did dodge a bullet by not getting my face done and TBH my neck / upper chest skin has never been the same. The regulations are very loose. In NZ the volume of Accident Compensation claims are really growing rapidly. I’m currently in the GC visiting my in-laws and enjoying some spectacular weather. So nice to be able to travel to Aus again. Take care 🌸💖

she overdid it thinking that would be better, these people are really dumb. You have to be asking them questions every step of the way. It's like if you need your leg amputated you have to write with a marker "not this one" on the other leg. That's the level of incompetence that's out there. Never give them a chance to ruin you.
