Happy to see a review for this pencil since it always pops up on Amazon in other mech pencil searches I've done!

Great video again as always, the outside looks like a cross between a rOtring and a Staedtler OD = Olive Drab. Take care

This is a fantastic pencil! I have one in blaze orange that I have been using for a little over a year for work. The lead that comes with it is quite delicate and has a tendency to break inside the pencil if dropped. I found that the Hi-Polymer HB refills that Pentel makes in 1.3 work great with this pencil. The Pentel PDE-1 eraser refills also work well with this pencil.

June Gold also sells 1.3mm HB and 2B refills they claim are break resistant. They sell in 4 packs for a total of 120 pieces for about $6 and change. IF you care about darker or want to try something different.

When writing with this pencil I found that the edges were a bit sharp so I gently filed the edges. That greatly increased the comfort in writing.

I think I would like this pencil. PENTEL, STAEDTLER, and JUNE GOLD all sell 1.3mm refills, but mainly limited to HB and B from what I have seen. List price for the Rite as Rain refills is $8.99 for 12 sticks ($6.29 in Amzn).. I guess if you really want the dark 2B (as it says on the container) you might have to buy those. The waterproof claim though, is salesmanship... Graphite in general is fairly waterproof and the darker/softer the higher the graphite vs clay % it is. Carbon on the other hand.. is VERY water soluble. 👍 P.S. "June Gold 120 Pieces, 1.3 mm 2B Lead Refills, 30 Pieces Per Tube, Medium Bold Thickness, Break Resistant Lead/Graphite (Pack of 4 Dispensers) " List: $8.99 ($6.49 on Amzn)

The first thing that caught my attention when my first one showed up (orange -- OR13) was the balance. I like both diameter of the metal knurled grip and I like how the center of balance is low on the pen. For me that's easier writing because there is less mass towards the top of the pen. I purchased in black when I want to be more subtle. I'm totally fine with 1.3mm leads for daily use. And since you can use any 1.3mm refill, you can find the lead hardness/darkness that works the best for you. One thing about some of the Rite in the Rain refill packages is that they are 120mm long.

Other 1.3mm pencils: the Staedtler771 which is fun, designed for kids, and is, well, fat. And the Pentel AM13 / Pentel Mark Sheet Sharp which is nice but has a divisive grip style. Staedtler 1.3mm leads are HB only. Pentel 1.3mm leads are HB or B. So the refills for this being 2B are presumably darker than those, and twice as long, at 120mm vs 60mm.

The eraser cap eventually just pops off whenever and will refuse to go back on properly after some use.

There is a very similar pencil sold under the Nicpro name that I have found on ebay. I'd be interested in seeing your thoughts in a side by side comparison. The sets they can be found in look like good values.

May as well use a pen since using the eraser on a Rite In The Rain piece of paper removes the waxy cover of it!
