Was it worse the extra fee for the pet to stay or could the pet have stayed at home or with a family member?

Depends. It is worth it if you plan includes activities with your dog and take advantage of the beautiful trail. But at the same time, it is pretty crowded. Not sure if its the best place for dogs, especially big dogs.
