Obsidian, CD Projekt Red, Larian, and inXile bro. My holy grail of western RPGs. Obsidian are probably the most severely underrated studio to exist in mainstream gaming. Whatever unwanted sequel to develop they get handed to in half the budget and time, they deliver, and by God they deliver in spades. Fallout New Vegas. Legendary title and one which after almost 6 years still isn't gone from my system.

@MrRaziza7 жыл бұрын
ReiGnJuste CD Projekt Red and Obsidian are one of the few companies still giving a shit about releasing quality games with complete content... Rockstar didn't even release the online component to GTA on time with the release of the game. I really don't understand why you would think CD Projeckt Red is somehow behind them, The Witcher 3 and it's DLC's are possibly some of the best content released in the past many years of gaming, even if you don't personally enjoy them ignoring the quality is just ignorant.

To hear Obsidian talk about how close they came to closing down is really hard. They have been my favorite studio for as long as I can remember. They were always making the game that I was most excited for. They were always doing the project that most interested me. I still so clearly remember the day I found out about the Kickstarter for the first Pillars game. I immediately shared it on facebook and in private messages to all my closest friends. At that time I was a starving student and couldn't afford to contribute financially so I was determined to get it in front of as many people as I could who I knew could and would contribute. I'm so happy this studio is still going strong and I can't wait to throw all my money at everything they do in the future. Stay the course guys. Own your own titles and don't be beholden to any big publishers money again. As long as you only need to depend on you, you will do great. I know it!

already watched it but gonna rewatch it again, this shows how much passion went into this game, hats off obsidian!!! MAKE POE2 the baldur's gate 2 of this generation!!!
@talon68907 жыл бұрын
I doubt that will happen because they will try to make POE2 an overly balanced, and thus tepid game instead of allowing world-enhancing, life-breathing, extremely exciting imbalances like we saw in baldur's gate 2. they already showed how much they care about overbalancing their crpgs in POE1 (years after release and they are still spending resources to balance a single-player game...). they don''t understand the difference between making a really good game with a cool world and a GREAT, 10/10 game and world. they are too scared to make the risky sacrifices of making some gamers who just want to beat the game on the hardest difficulty without falling into "trap builds" or not being good enough unhappy. they want the maximum amount of people to be intellectually validated instead of truly challenged (because it means more profits, of course). too scared to allow broken weapons and spells into their game because they value triple crown solo achievements more than they do constructing a world that is surging with palpable, realistic imbalanced life.

Hugh Janus I didn't come here to proof read an essay 😂
@wingsrope7 жыл бұрын
Hugh Janus, I think that this is the new direction of Obsidian. It might be because they've been constantly existing on the verge of death, albeit being the only company to actually experiment with their games. Unfortunately, it made them something akin to starving artists. At this point, they might be burnt out. They kept making masterpieces, which provided them cult-recognition, but no profits (KOTOR2, New Vegas, Mask of the Betrayer, Alpha Protocal etc). It's pretty sad actually, considering they're technically the continuation of Black Isle (there's also inExile, who are in a similar position). I think that the old Black Isle/Obsidian magic is dead at this point. You can blame the industry and the tasteless consumers for it.
@BomimoDK7 жыл бұрын
there's only Josh Sawyer and Feagus left from Black Isle and none of them were involved in Fo or PS:T. Obsidian being the continuation ended after New Vegas didn't score its 85 meta critic bonus and people got fired or just left in disgust... Luckily, the old guard aren't the only creative forces at play and the new crop of Obsidian devs are doing well enough on their own.
@wingsrope7 жыл бұрын
BomimoDK, they still have Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky from Black Isle (they rejoined recently). But that's beside the point. My comment was referring to the idea that Obsidian will not go back to their experimental roots - I was responding to Hugh Janus. What I'm saying is that modern Obsidian can no longer afford to screw themselves over by releasing overly ambitious and experimental, but buggy AAA games (or even niche cRPGs). They now prioritize polish and balance over originality, which is fine, since the company has been screwing itself for too long (which is also evident from this documentary). I'm saying that we shouldn't expect them to make anything original and mind-blowing as they no longer adhere to the Chris Avellonian experimental/creative game design philosophy (which only got them into trouble financially).

As one of my first Kickstarter Backings and also my first one beyond $1K I am very proud of what this game has become. Kickstarting a Game Project for me is not only about the game itself, but about the company that creates it and about the games to follow. So when I put my money there I was hoping for not only a single great game, but for a successful series of games that would keep my passion for those deep and engaging RPGs going. I am very happy now that exactly this scenario has come to pass. For Pillars 2 I hope that existing technology and art, as well as routine will help you (Obsidian) to create an even greater game with less setbacks along the way, so you don't have to cut as many things as you had to from POE 1, which is even with it's (very few) flaws an epic game that noone who plays RPGs miss.

Just want to say thanks for being awesome guys, I've already broken the THREE HUNDRED hour mark with Pillars and I'm already starting another playthrough with 4 Ranged rangers (bow, pistol,rifle,arqubus) w/ Bear companions, a Nature God-like blunderbuss wielding chanter (a singing tree :D) and a Bear Druid (found a mod to make spiritshift permanent...still pretty weak but its just for fun, will lower diff is necessary). The ONLY two complaints i really have beyond minor stuff is the lack of mod support (starting to burn out w/o this) and the lack of multi-player...my girlfriend and I are loving playing through BG1 together (hopefully the new expansion is fun) and not being able to share this with her is a real bummer since she get's too frustrated playing these games alone (new to gaming and DnD) In short thanks for being awesome and please consider mod support and multiplayer in PoE2 to extend the life of the game and so your fans can share the experience with each other :D Now the questions is...to play Tyranny or Tides of Numenera next?

Interesting video on mostly the technical process of creating a huge rpg game. But, even at almost one and a half hour, they skipped at least two very important areas that are sadly missing. One is the whole process behind the concepts, story and lore, character development, etc. The other is the voice acting. I would have loved to see how voice actors are assigned to a character, voice directing, etc.

It's April 22, 2021, and this video hasn't broken 200K views. Expecting a huge uptick after Avowed's release.

The soundtrack portion blew me away. I love the Pillars soundtrack so much, and to see how it was put together... man...

Loved both POE and POE2! Can't WAIT to see what you guys deliver with "Avowed!" If you manage to bring your story-telling and depth of gameplay to a first-person roleplaying game I'm sure you'll have yet another masterpiece on your hands! Thank you for all the hard work!

I am happy for a limited budget. The illustrated cutscenes with atmospheric music are superior to the usual video-stuff.

Thank god for Obsidian! These guys just became my best hope for a resurgence of great CRPGs. You guys came a long way since the underdog to BioWare that makes buggy RPGs with great ideas. Now, if there is any studio that can put slap BioWare on the ass for them to actually do some soul searching, it is definitely Obsidian.

Thank you Obsidian for being truth with your principles. Big millionaire developers that became casual to survive could take one of two lessons from you.

Just got the game and I can see that this was a labor of love. Why? Because it shows. Thank you so much.
