The Road to Fossil-free Steel - Our Sustainable Future Begins in the Mine

At LKAB, we are determined to become even better.
The iron and steel industry accounts for a quarter of global industry emissions of carbon dioxide. We are now taking the lead in a global transformation of our industry: this means a transition from fossil energy to renewable electricity, we will start producing carbon dioxide-free sponge iron for fossil-free steel, we will set a new world standard for sustainable mining, carbon dioxide-free and electrified, and we will start producing critical raw materials, such as phosphorus and rare earth elements, from our mining waste. By 2045, we will be completely carbon dioxide-free.
Altogether, this means that we can contribute to reducing global emissions of carbon dioxide by more than 40 million tonnes a year. That is equivalent to all of Sweden's emissions of greenhouse gasses today.
We will go from being part of the problem to becoming part of the solution. This is our story.
