The Road to Hana is one of the best road trips in the United States. The drive is stunning the entire time with waterfalls, hiking trails, beaches and caves. While it is a short 60 miles, it will take one full day just to see a fraction of the drive. If you have the chance though, I highly recommend you take more time than that so that you can really experience this beautiful place. We did the drive over 2 days and here is how we made the most of our time on the Road to Hana. Let me know what questions you have in the comments.

As a local Hana resident - this is one of the better Road to Hana videos I've seen - well done. And yes Kilo's Food Truck is Da best in Hana. Also Hana-Maui Hotel is $1200 a night so you got off cheaply. Thanks for the respect - locals appreciate it! Also pull over for locals when driving Hana Hwy they got places to be!

As a local do you recommend folks do one of the tours rather than drive it? We want to be maximum respectful of the locals and it seems like keeping extra cars off the road is good, but also, I worry tour trucks might not take us to local shops/restaurants, which is what we prefer to support.

@@kingalshammari8251 we decided to go on a tour. I think the shaka guide would have done us well in a car, but at the end of the day, we thought it'd be less obnoxious to the locals if we went with a group where the driver knows the local customs and stuff.

My wife and I went the road to Hana in the 70s. We rented a jeep and there was hardly any traffic. Back then was not nearly as smooth and wide and not so many places to stop. As I remember Hana was pretty much a village. But the trip was well worth it and still memorable. Thanks for updating us.

We drove this in 1982, and wasn’t any different than you described. Renter brand new Ford sedan, headlights didn’t work, night return drive was SLOW and knuckle biting.

This is my favorite KZbin channel! I've watched a few of these with my wife. I guess she pays a lot more attention to these than I realized. When they went into the cave, my wife said she was happy Josh had someone to go with him this time since Pops is claustrophobic. I was honestly suprised she remembered that!

So glad to see that no swimming is allowed at the Seven Sacred Pools. I visited many years ago and it was filled with people and it kinda ruined the view. Some places just need to be viewed only. I remember the narrow road and pullouts. Never ending beautiful sights the whole way. Looking forward to returning again and trying that banana bread

We went to Maui in 2003 and stayed in Kahana on the west end of the island. Amazing 10 days and taking the road to Hana (where my grandma was born) was a highlight of our trip. When we were there, there were lots of people swimming and jumping in the 7 Sacred Pools, and we weren’t required to get a reservation to the black sand beach. We took our drive in one day, but wish now we had taken more time to explore. I hope to be back, getting old! Lol And all the digital photos I took are gone. I had offloaded the photos onto my laptop instead of backing them up to a drive or cd. When we got home from our long flight home, my hard drive totally died along with many memories. Thankfully we have video from our camcorder and some hard copy photos from a few water cameras. Guess we need to return!

I did the road to Hana last November. Loved it! Stopped for the banana bread, multiple falls, the Huli Huli chicken in Hana, we used the app that was a fantastic guide. My favorite part was the Black sand beach. Just know you need a reservation to park and spend a few hours there. The Black sand beach is truly black. More like tiny pebbles than sand. The locals drive 4x4 trucks and drive that road pretty fast.. can be a little nerve wracking. Start early, like 6:00am.

Thanks so much for this video. My family and I just did the drive and the video was on the money. A couple of notes: 1. We used the "Shaka" app. It saved the day on a few occasions as cell service went out but the downloaded map on the app still worked fine otherwise we would not have any navigation 2. Auntie Sandys is closed on Sundays. We went to the stand by the Halfway to Hana sign and the banana bread was very good. Can't say if it's as good as Auntie Sandys, but we loved it. 3. We were able to do everything you guys did in one day, but we skipped the crowded swimming falls near the end as we thought that twin falls was better. Plus we wanted to make it up and down the PPY hike before it started getting dark. There were some many views on the trip that I remembered from your vid. Great.job!!! Thanks again.🙏🏽
