The roar of the Lion

This video filmed in the southern Serengeti and Masi Mara in January 2017, features the Wildebeest Migration at the time when the calves are usually born. Normally up to 500,000 are born over a three to four week period mostly in the short grass plains of the southern Serengeti. However in 2017 the rains were late and without fresh grass the cows did not give birth at the usual time. Indeed at the time this was uploaded nearly half of Kenya was suffering drought conditions. The video looks at the impact of this in both places and also looks at how the predators cope without both water and prey.

Thank you very much for your comment it is much appreciated . I do indeed use the canon camcorder you mention but I have also taken to using a gopro which is ideal for times when the safari truck is on the move. It would be great to be able to use a drone for example to film the wildebeest but they are very intrusive and both Kenya and Taznania have banned them.

This reminds me of my time in the Serengeti/Ngorongoro. We saw all the big five including two Black Rhino and a Caracle hunting.

why was the water a bright green?

Sami. The green colour is an algae which the animals don't mind at all. Had the rains arrived as expected these pools would have been flushed out and been much deeper. However as I said in the video the rains were very late so the water was stagnant.
