This was written for a story idea I had called “The Roaring Lion”. An emotionally exhausted man found himself sitting in a public place, when all of a sudden a stranger came and sat with him. This stranger talked and talked with the man, he fed the man grand ideas about himself, and supported all of the anger and frustration he had been feeling in his life. The man walked away from the conversation feeling renewed, feeling self-righteous pride. He applied the stranger’s advice to his life, and everything began to spin horribly out of control.
The stranger in this story is supposed to be the Devil. Satan tries to present himself to people as a friend, but he is a fiend. He thinks of himself as powerful and elegant, but he is wicked and made weak under the power of Christ. That is what this music is supposed to represent. The title is based on 1 Peter 5:8. “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”
