Part of the reason I love this song is, while yes it is just well written, it's also talking about real stuff. This song is about AI being used in art. Music, animation, drawings, whatever. The lyrics hit harder when you realize the Neon Tide he's talking about is AI. That's also the reason the video is made using generative AI, it's to show how bad it is since while the camera is moving back the image keeps changing until the final frame of the video is a completely different one from the first. I'm telling you the chorus hits way harder when you know it's AI he's talking about

7:00 adding to this, I see the song as an analogy of the advancements of ai and how it's gonna effect our lives, with Sponge saying that the neon is loud and that he doesn't want to live with it, they're the general populace recognising ai as a bad thing, whereas Plankton is like a tech bro pushing and advancing the technology to the point of being indistinguishable from real artists work, not realizing the damage hes causing. In his other song, Both of Us, Plankton starts to recognize the damage he's done, but is too far along to stop it, and in Funeral of an Antihero, he fully comes to terms with what he's done and that there's no going back, and that he'll be remembered as the one who pushed the envelope too far and now his neon tide is running rampant. At least that's my take, could be compleatly wrong lmao.

So Boi What also has a storyline for the Spongebob stuff, the first part is Plan Z where Plankton goes all out war on Bikini Bottom and succeeds. Neon Tide is Plankton solidifying his control through his robot army and replacing the buildings with neon like Cyberpunk or Bladerunner, Spongebob's part is his reaction to all the chaos happening. Gary running away again is most likely to escape the carnage.
