The Corporate Entity The Rock will never accept being the heel, that is part of the problem. He wants to be cheered, viewed as the hero. Which is why he had Cody embrace him before leaving the ring. If a heel Rock walked in & told Cody to wait in line, that would have made sense. Then Cody would refuse to back down & we could get a triple threat match or something. Cody was put in that place not because the Rock wanted it. It's because Cody joined AEW. CM Punk will receive the same shit. It's a re-initiation makes the superstar rethink quiting WWE and joining another company. Every superstar has been put on notice Is it morally right? No. But expect that to happen.

Interesting theory. But, I don't think Cody would be this mega star had he stayed with WWE. AEW allowed Cody to become this global superstar. When Cody rejoined, WWE got a readymade main event superstar. In essence, AEW acted as a developmental promotion for WWE. Cody won't be the last wrestler to join AEW, build his star power, & join WWE down the line. MJF is already waiting in the wings. I don't think this is about a grudge or sending a message. I think this is WWE valuing $$$ over creative integrity.
