@@bboyStuntZMick wrote about it in his book. They agreed to 3 or 4 shots, really milking each one, spacing them out while going from the ring all the way up the ramp. Rocky sort of lost it and hammered Mick with like 5 or 6 immediately in the ring alone. At one point Mick actually turned and started to walk away, Rocky ran around him and drilled him again. You can't really blame Mick for anything, his brains were so scrambled he was basically just operating on autopilot. He put himself and his family in a vulnerable position and trusted the Rock to take care of him... The Rock didn't. From what I can recall in the book, I believe afterwards backstage the Rock also never came to see him after the match that night, to see if he was OK or anything. They got over it eventually, but Mick let's everything go lol guy can't beef for shit.

What was accomplished in those two matches was for one moment in the business you totally shocked fans, which isn't bad, what was bad is you set a bar, a standard, that for someone to top that they would have to practically kill themselves in or out of the ring. That ultimately hurt the business in the long term.

The 99 I Quit Match is Legendary. Rock was savage with that chair, God knows how Foley was breathing afterwards. The worst part was Foleys wife and kids at ringside in tears watching their Daddy get annihilated. They had to be escorted out. It's covered really well in Beyond The Matt Documentary. You even see the guys in the back looking shocked during that chair shot sequence. After the match in the back you can see the relief that he's ok from everyone. Then Mick and Vince shrug it off 'That's Show business!!!' Then you watch him rewatch the match at home with his wife and he sees what he's done to his kids😢 It's brutal.

I think Vince went too far in how preposterous he was in the Mr. McMahon Netflix documentary. Basically calling Undertaker's concussion bullshit in the Wrestlemania match where Brock Lesnar ended the streak. I cannot believe he had the audacity to say that the Undertaker was so traumatized that his streak was ending, and that caused a mental breakdown. Vince left Wrestlemania to be in the hospital with the Undertaker out of concern for his close son like friend. Then he says this crap? That was so disrespectful, and you don't do that to a friend. Vince owes him an apology, but out of his own mouth he says he doesn't regret anything. This is the Undertaker, not Bret Hart or Ronda Rousey. Mark isn't that much of a "mark" where losing a pro wrestling match would ever traumatize him. IMO If anyone should be traumatized by wrestling matches, it's Mick Foley. These clips are brutal, and he still didn't care whether he won or lost. He only wanted to entertain people to the best of his ability, and give the audience their money's worth. The extreme violence he put his body though would definitely traumatize the average person.

Ive always been so confused as how to shocked ppl were about some of these segments I was a kid back then and even i knew the hanging was a harness and the crucifixitions were cool af, not blasphemous. They didnt even use a cross or a pentagram. I thought the Big Show funeral was hilarious, same with the Al Snow stuff, DX, Godfather all of it was goofy fun The only one that was slightly uncomfortable was the Trish/Vince segment but even then its like that was the point of it. And it got Vince over as a POS while Trish, Shane, Linda and anyone else involved have all reached God tier status because of those segments. Same with Foley stuff. It was suppose to look f'd up. Who brings their family to a major show for an I Quit match after his decades of losing and breaking body parts all over the world? Like yeah id be a little shocked seeing a loved one, handcuffed and their skull getting bashed in..but also..oh yeah its wrestling and theyve done it their whole life. Also saw them get set on fire, super glue lacerations closed from barbwire, get their eat chopped off in a botch and finish the match but a sign saying Cane Dewey made me a little sad and a guy took liberties in a huge main event match a decade later...for a billion dollar company..where everyone is making millions compared to all the outlaw mudshows theyd work for $50 and a hot dog living in their car just to make it lol So it always cracks me up to think that adults back then, even Kurt Angle back in the day when he did ecw for a minute, were so upset by certain things Its like thats kind of whole the point..i dont watch saw or hostel movies and then get upset by it..and not to get political but it always makes me chuckle a little bit to see these superstars, who openly talk about how its improv live entertainment, good vs evil, heros and villians, but with an athletic backdrop end up being conservative and religious lol Like joey styles did all that stuff but was conservative/religious. Angle cut promos about not liking black ppl, aligning with Hassan/Daivari, said hed make Jesus tap, stalked Booker Ts wife for "beastility sex" but couldnt handle an ecw crucifixition out of his faith and reputation lol...like theyll do a million angles and go on about how fake it is, how ppl get so worked up, how its a movie and cinema like everything else, and then you find out this ONE ANGLE triggered their core values.. i mean were all human but its funny remembering being a kid and just thinking all of this stuff was cool, lowkey kind of tame actually, and if you felt some type of way then they did a good job!.for a "fake joke sport" they nailed a moment and it resonated with ppl....then you see a podcast or an interview where they rage quit a company or something lol All the other stuff is entertainment, its athletics, its the toughest sport, hardest live entertainment, fans are marks, its comic books, its cinema, its simulated combat 300 days a year with good vs evil grounded in pop culture but that one racist/sexist/political/religious worked me into a shoot, hurt my beliefs, i was like omg the children and we couldn't do business 😂

The cell was way more dangerous, one wrong turn while falling Foley would be crippled so he was really lucky, while the chairshots are excessive the force and angle when the chair lands can be controlled.

I'm not saying a chair shot doesn't hurt but it's not the end of world. It doesn't matter if it's one chair shot or twenty. It's all illusion anyway. Mick is essentially a stunt man, that's his profession.

To this day I still revisit the Hell in a Cell match. It was like a movie. The I Quit match is hard to watch, even at the time it was cringy. And the fact that Micks wife and kids were there made it even worse

Rocks chairshots 100%. Here is the thing. That time period was a "do whatever they tell you to do" period. If Mick said "hey, go out there and hit me with a car" the reaponse is, "okie dokie". Mick was pissed AFTERWARD, yes. As he didnt think THAT would happen but Rock was told to go until he went down, Mick was so loopy he didn't know wtf was happening and not thinking. This is why we have the standards we do now. Right there.

That "I quit" match was what ultimately made me stop watching wrestling. I'm happy he shares the same opinion as I do. As a little kid, I found it gratuitous; I remember watching it and feeling wrong.

Mick chose to come off the top twice. I’m pretty sure he was concussed after a few chairshots and was in autopilot. Taker looked more brutal but was safe and let mankind choose his fate. Rock was brutal and but we’ve seen so many chairshots that it wasn’t all that crazy looking, and mick just had to take it

The most messed up part of The Rock vs Mankind match, was that there were spots where Mick was clearly giving Rock his back, to hit with the chair. But Rock hit him in the head again anyway
